Im curious how others use the Private and Public Campaign notes?
For example - in the public notes, Ive got links to a few campaign documents my players might find useful, such as the Players Guide for character creation for the campaign, a list of events by session and a list of NPCs by Session.
Except for some basic links, I don't use the campaign notes. After a few sessions they just got too unwieldy to manage so I just have a few documents on my Google Drive that I share with the party for session summaries, quest logs, treasure logs, etc.
At the top of the Campaign page, I start out with which books I have shared for them to use. I then talk about the tone, tenor, and theme of my game. I'll then go into a brief discussion of any special homebrew rules I will be using. No links of any kind there.
In my Public Notes for the DM area, I'll go into a little bit more detail for those who are curious. I'll explain as briefly as I can what my ideas were and why I posted them. No links there either.
In the Private Notes for the DM area, I'll have a links to anything I find useful. I have one, the Sane Magical Prices Guide. I also put in reminders about any special rules that have been clarified in some way, usually by the Sage Advice Compendium, sometimes by things I've had to ask about in the various forums, in particular, the Rules & Game Mechanics forum, because they like to help people there, and they know the 5th edition rules much better than I do. I have the rules about falling damage there, because they are kind of strange, and about how magical creatures like Dragons can use their breath weapon and get non-magical effects.
I use the private notes for my session notes and overall world building notes. Session notes I write under the spoilers feature that way I can close the long list of notes and have access to everything without scrolling forever. Public I use for table rules and recaps etc again using the spoiler feature this in turn keeps the forever scrolling down and anyone new coming into the game has access to previous sessions
I wish I could say I find the notes useful, but as of now it's much more effective to use OneNote to organize my campaign and a Discord server to host the pertinent info for the players and to schedule.
