So the more I talk about the new PhB 2024 I really do like how they tied ability score upgrades, proficiencies, etc to backgrounds as it makes sense for a character but why is there no option for custom backgrounds. Each one is literally 3 attributes, 2 proficiencies, 1 tool, 1 origin feat, and 50g starter equipment. I understand that I could homebrew this but in terms of pure ease of use on DnD Beyond it seems like quite the oversight idk. Maybe I've lost the plot. What do y'all think?
A common thought on this is that they've moved all optional rules, such as custom backgrounds to the DMG to make it easier for DMs to use them or not without the players arguing if it's in the PHB they should be allowed to do it. That's just a guess but probably a good one and it's worth noting that so far we've only really seen part of the new rules
