I've been playing Hollow Knight recently, and I really like creating new dnd characters. I thought about creating The Knight, but I couldn't think of a class to use. For everything else, I'm thinking about Thri-Kreen as a race and Outlander or Hermit as a background. I'm not going to use any of the 2024 rules, so 2014 classes only, please. For those who don't know, the character I'm trying to create is not the actual Hollow Knight itself, but the player character. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!

Pokemon Master, Hero of Hyrule, Jedi Knight, Minecrafter, Celestial Being Beyond Comprehension, Bounty Hunter, Salmon Runner, Nailmaster, Yarn Yoshi Enjoyer, Animal Lover, Math Rock Roller, Nerd King in all Aspects.
(And, of course, Dragon Tamer. It is in the name, after all)

OP requested help building a character based on a video game protagonist, not a historic knight.
Now, since I haven't played Hollow Knight I'm not sure how to build the character, though I think that building a Metroidvania protagonist in D&D is not going to necessarily translate well.
It's a little hard to model all of the Hollow Knight's moves in DND, I think. It's even pretty hard to model an undead beetle knight in the first place. But I think the key would be to get the mobility right. An eldritch knight with Jump and Expeditious Retreat, along with the feats to go along with it, would be a start. But EK just has too few spell slots to my way of thinking.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
So, the knight has a few core skills that need to be represented: his skills with the sword, his jumping and dashing, the magic he can use.
The first idea would be the Eldritch Knight: you get the whole fighter kit which covers the sword fighting part, Eldritch Knight gives you access to spells, but this won't be that potent, and for the jumping and dashing, it would eat into the spell slots.
So, i think a fighter is not the way to go.
Instead, you should likely want to take a class that can be good with swords, limited spells that can actually do something, and ways to gains jumps and dashes that don't eat into your spellcasting.
And here i think Warlock is the best candidate: Hexblade gives you good enough sword fighting, your spells will be potent enough since it and your swords are going to use the same ability modifier, and for the jumping and dashing you get the Otherwordly Leap Invocation.
And i think you are holding yourself back with the 2014 rules, as the 2024 warlock could be the Archfey which would be fitting for the knight in a way with the pale lady and the king, and it would give you plenty of uses of misty step to mimic the dashes.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Arcane trickster rogue, vengeance paladin, or eldritch knight.

I’ve not played the game, but based on the comments, I’d suggest trying to get ahold of some boots of striding and springing.
