If you’re like me, you never scroll down on the landing page and read the articles. But there was an interesting one yesterday from the new head of D&D.
Looks like starting in September, maps will be free. Also they are starting some sort of advisory group, though the details on what, exactly the group will do is pretty vague. And there was something also vague about updating the srd and keeping it updated.
Anyway, probably worth a read for those of us with a mild to moderate forum addiction.
So, to my reading, the premade maps will be free, but uploading your own will require a sub? It wasn't explicit, but the ordering seemed to suggest that?

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

Yes. If you own an adventure book, you can use the maps from that book in Maps. I.e. buy Descent into Avernus, get the DiA maps in Maps.
Create your own maps in Dungeon Alchemist, get them from Czepeku, or grab maps off Pinterest? No change from current operation. Makes it extremely difficult to hand over the reins in a group that frequently rotates DMs.
Bummer. Hopefully they'll make it work like content sharing though - you just need someone in the campaign with a sub.

I'd call it explicit. I assume the intent is mostly to provide a way for non-subscribers to try it out and decide if it's a good enough product to be worth subscribing.
Having maps shared via content sharing would be great, every other part of the content is already shared, and this would make it a lot easier for players to give DMing a try.
