I'm new to posting questions in general so forgive me if this is the wrong place to do it. I have a character build I have been creating. I'm kind of new to DnD but I love character stat creation in all my games so this is the fun part for me. I am making a 2024 base build with a few older concepts.
I'm currently level 8 Shadow Monk Level 4 Shadow Sorcerer.
Yes I know not recommended but as you can see I got lucky with some rolls plus stat distribution strategy.
Proficient in Acrobatics, Insight, Perception, and Stealth all at +8 or +9. I'm wearing the Ring of Evasion, Boots of Elven kind the Insignia of Claws, and clothing no armor. My DM is making everyone a Unique personal weapon and I'm gonna get a short sword like the sun blade but instead of create light it snuffs it out.
Level 1 spells are Catapult, Charm Person, and Shield.
Level 2 Spells are Catapult(extra dmg) Charm Person( charm more people) Darkness (Shadow Arts)(at will) Darkness(eyes of the Dark), Invisibility, Knock, Mirror Image, Misty Step.
Level 3 (Taking 5 levels) Hast, Blink
I am Resistant to Necrotic and Radiant damage. I am also an Aasimar and I have Necrotic Shroud. and Healing hands. .
The idea is a Shadow Wraith that can disappear reappear and absolutely kick booty and never be seen in the prosses. I'm using the sorcerer spells as AOE or personal support. I want to go one of two ways. Go as much monk as possible or 16 monk and 6 sorcerer. Or I can dip 3 into fighter for the extra attack/healing/subclass which Id probably go Samurai and duelist. Either way I want at least level 5 sorcerer so I can get blink and hast. My last attribution/feat I want to get Boon of Dentinal Travel.
So my question is without telling me not to do this multiclass build, is there better spells I could choose or any recommended feats. Other build ideas to work with my current 8 monk 4 sorcerer build. What path would lead to the most burst dmg gorilla warfare teleporting shadow hunter type of fighting.
Ps. If you wandering the inspiration its a combo of Minato and Obito combo from Naruto :P
Oddly, our current campaign has a Monk/Sorcerer so I can provide a bit of insight.
1. You almost certainly want third level spells.
2. You WILL be seen and you will be hit. Repeatedly. A surprising number of monsters get some form of blindsight/truesight/tremorsense.
3. Fighter levels won’t help much, you will have plenty of attacks.
4. A low CON score will be an issue, more so if you count on concentration spells.
5. Your spell save DC is going to lag behind unless you keep pumping points into CHR so offensive spells won’t be that reliable, or if you do your Monk abilities will suffer.
Our monk uses his spells mainly to augment his Monk abilities, it has worked stunningly well (see what I did there).
My first disclaimer for this thing is just that you’re never really going to feel like a high end shonen character using 5e’s framework- bounded performance, d20 variance, and monster defense features all come together to level out your performance against serious enemies. With that said, this is a decent basis to work from. Definitely better to focus your Sorcerer saves on AoE- your DC won’t be bad, but save or suck effects like Hold Person are gonna be more flaky. Your best bet for burst damage is just focusing as a Monk, but 5e stealth generally doesn’t support ongoing concealment during combat, and depending on exactly how your DM handles it even the few options for some support might not do much in practice. I might suggest grabbing Eldritch Adept for the Devil’s Sight invocation if you can spare the ASI- it’ll let you drop Darkness around yourself without messing up your lines of sight.
Shadow Sorcerer can see in his own Darkness as a class feature. The invisibility is a good point, he would need 4th level spells to get Greater Invisibility to allow attacking while invisible.

Even then, invisible generally does not equate to undetectable.
Interesting this is exactly what I was looking for. So looking over what you said and adapting it to how i want to play the character and nerding out on the numbers. I changed a few things. I'll was thinking going 15 monk and 5 sorcerer. I already have the speedy feat, tough feat and i was thinking of getting resilient feat with constitution. I realy wanted the Boon of dimentional travle but i think with misty step and shadow step thats good enouph.
Looking into it the shadow monk and shadow sorcerer can both see in there created darkness's. Although it could help him if enemies spam darkness along side that or i could just take fighter and get blind fighting. But after reading everyones stuff and looking into other builds plus the actually mechanics of D&D using stealth alone would be tricky if not impossible consistently. So i think im going to focus on mobility, teleportation and reactions. like taking the feat resilient and selecting constitution. So i can maintain something like blur and hast when i do get hit. I reeeealy want to take the boon of dement anal travel. I love the idea of wailing on someone then just using teleporting out of there without using a spell slot.

Good luck and have fun with your character!

I used to laugh about how in the movie "The Phantom" with Billy Zane could turn invisible but still managed to get shot several times in about a week.
Maybe their screenwriter works for WotC now?
Also, I have no idea what character he is trying for. I'm not familiar with Naruto at all.
