Are DM last game sent us to the abyss but decided to strip the party of all item and equipment when we awoke on a beach. Now this has forced me to do some creative thinking in how my character will cast spells. I feel its tad meta gaming thinking about what are items could be used to make clay for are druid to cast some spells or sand to make a glass rod for the bard to cast lightning bolt. Even got the idea of heating dryed fruit for sugar so my sorcerer can cast slow
Are party is a Monk - unaffected , bard , druid , fighter , sorcerer ,barbarian/monk. Took a 6th lvl spell for us to clear 8 zombies in a small room hitting us all
It makes sense that your characters would have understand what exact components they need to cast spells. The only caster I can think of that may not know what exact components are needed would be a Sorcerer who never once used a component pouch, but always used a focus. Remember, the flavor of the component pouch implies that you're restocking it with whatever you need to cast the spells that you have.
I wouldn't call knowing what components you need for magic and seeking them out metagaming, especially if you're a career spellcaster. It can actually be a pretty fun gimmick in a campaign, given the DM plans around it appropriately.

I agree I'm enjoying it plucked are bird man fighter for a white feather for the Fear spell. But it just seems he took all are gear just to mess with us
Its meta-gaming, but it's creative meta-gaming and you have very limited resources to work with. I don't see a problem with it.
Only thing the DM seems annoyed by this
In other words, he’s upset because he wanted to completely hamstring you and instead you figured out a way to only be handicapped.
I’d be figuring out how to make an Arcane Focus if I was you anyway. Your Druid can use a piece of a plant to make his Arcane Focus according to the rules. He still has to do some work to it, but he can make his own in a couple of days.
Another thing to think about. A lot of spells don’t have a material component and those spells can be cast normally by the spell casters. Your Druid can change his prepared spell list pretty easily, but your bard and sorcerer will have to work with the spells that they know. Read through your spell list to see what spells you can cast that don’t have material components.
Something to think about. You can use a spell that creates fire to melt sand to produce a glass rod and maybe Mage Hand or Prestigitation to form it. And then use a super hot piece of metal to carve arcane designs on it to create a Rod or an Orb for an arcane focus, not just a component for one spell. Or, if you find a nice gem you can use that as a crystal for an arcane focus. You have more options than it looks like on the surface as long as you can survive for a couple of days to use them.
Yeah, this isn't meta-gaming at all. Your character who needs components would be looking for how to get components. The only thing to watch for is if you're using information that you in the 21st century have that your character would not have. If your character starts talking about ions and plastics and such, now maybe you're meta-gaming. :)
Getting clay isn't hard at all. Soil is made of sand, clay, and silt, in different ratios. At least in the prime material plane, that is. Find the right soil, or dig down far enough in most soils, you'll find clay. Just literally dig it up.
