Yo! So I've been bouncing this character concept in my head for a while and I like the overall premise that I created but it still feel like it's missing something, so I'd appreciate any feedback you guys can give.

Race: Kalashtar (or Human) Class: Monk (Way of the Astral Self UA) Background: Gladiator or Hermit
General Concept: This monk was previously a student of another Martial Path but for whatever reason (this will be determined by the Player/DM) they left to find their own path. In the time that follows (either months or years) your character has discovered or developed a new martial path, the Way of the Astral Self.
Character Quests: This can be fairly straight forward. With a newly discovered art, the player could spend the campaign as an adventure trying to hone their newfound craft by battling the various dangers of the world or by challenging Monk monasteries of differing Subclasses, possibly including the one they originally came from. Maybe the character is on a quest to prove their martial supremacy or maybe they have reached a newfound level of enlightenment.
Your plot hole my be the transition from old-sect to developing your "new" style... How does someone go from learning from others to "you guys are going it wrong" or "I think I found something new/different" ???
What is the reaction from the masters of your old sect to you leaving?
I think it comes down to the motivation to "leave" your old sect. I think once you have that down the rest should come together.
