Its just like I said in the title. Im trying to create a blood hunter barbarian and I'm wondering if the damage delt to you by your hemocraft die is also halved.
There is no listed damage type for the blood hunter's Blood Maledict feature. This is a gray area that probably exists because blood hunter is not an official class and thus hasn't gone through WotC's stringent wording. I would rule that the bear totem does not reduce that HP loss for two reasons.
1. The blood hunter class's Blood Maledict feature says "you can choose to amplify the curse by losing a number of hit points equal to one roll of your hemocraft die." While the bear totem says "you have resistance to all damageexcept psychic damage." You aren't being damaged by your Blood Maledict. You're losing hit points. I know that's a little pedantic, but it's RAW that seems to support what I see as the RAI in number 2.
2. Blood Maledict is a class feature, not an enemy attacking you. The power the feature gives you is balanced around actually taking the damage. It's also something you do to yourself. You're intentionally hurting yourself to bring about a magical effect in a ritual-like way. Think about it like a recipe: if you decide to only use half the flour that your cake recipe calls for, your cake isn't going to turn out right. If you only sacrifice half the HP the feature/ritual calls for, it's not going to turn out right.
I would rule that any ability that requires you to take damage to activate can NOT be reduced in any way without reducing/eliminating the benefit.
That is you can't power your spells by something, reduce the power, and expect the same output.
Agreed, with the one exception being a 10th level necromancer casting Life Transference. Your skill with necromancy should make you more efficient at using your life force to heal someone, not less.

its not damage so the barb's damage resistance has nothing to do with it.
