We all have our favorite house rules but I'm looking for ones that help make your PbP campaigns run smoother.
My favorite was switching to group initiatives so all my players could just post their actions as soon as possible rather than having to wait on one another and go in order.
But I'm sure there are other great ones out there! Please share and help me level up my PbP DMing!
Combining Spell Slots to cast higher level spells (expend multiple slots, add up the levels, but can't cast higher than your max level spell slot). On one hand, I've found that we tend to go with about 1 to 3 battles per in-game day (Usually 1, followed closely by 2, every once in a while 3) making higher level spellcasters expend little to no effort. On the other hand, the large HP pools of the boss monsters make using lower level spells laughable.
End of the in-game day, out-of-character, shop and craft lists. At the end of each in-game day, I ask all players what they want to purchase and craft (I limit to 1 magical item craft per night). Eliminating a lot of posting that would get in the way of RPing. There's still shopping RP when it comes up for a special place or items, and the players that want to RP parts of these that they think are good for character and relationship development still do, but not the mundane stuff. It gets smoother if you have a list of prices for things the players can easily buy or craft (prices of the materials essentially), then they don't even need to ask about the price.
Familiars, Summons, and other creatures under the control of players take the same turn as those players. Don't have to keep track of additional turns, and don't have to wait for other turns to finish.
