Hello! For anyone familiar to Magic the Gathering, or the Unearthed Arcana prior to Guilds of Ravnica, you may be familiar with the dragon-like/lizardfolk that are the Viashino. Since it didn't get officially published, and having always been a fan, I am trying to homebrew my own Viashino race.
Not to get into the weeds or lore too much here, I've basically broken them down into 3 sub-races. I can explain in more details the reasoning behind each of these, but right now just looking for advice on abilities, if too overpowered, etc...
Shiv Viashino - Basically appear like thinner red to brownish colored lizardfolk, but more dragon like features. These are usually the desert dwelling, dragon loving kind. - +2 Con, +1 Wis - Medium size - 30' movement - Languages - Common, Draconic - Proficiencies - Survival and choice of either Acrobatics or Stealth - Claws - Can use claws in place of unarmed attacks, dealing 1d4+strength bonus, etc - Resistance to Fire - Ability to use Produce Flame cantrip - Advantage to Survival and Stealth checks made in desert biome
Jund Viashino - These are the larger, bulkier viashino, with powerful jaws and heads shaped more akin to that of crocodiles. Scales tend to be darker in color, ranging from grays to black, or deep greens. Swamp dwelling primarily. - +2 Con, +1 Str - Medium size, Powerful Build (counts as large for purposes of carrying, yada, yada...) - 30' movement, 30' Swim speed - Hold breath for up to 15 minutes underwater - Languages - Common, Draconic - Proficiencies - Survival and choice of either Intimidation or Athletics - Bite - Can use powerful bite in place of unarmed attack, dealing 1d6+strength bonus, etc - Deathgrip - On a successful bite attack, can attempt to grapple as a bonus action. - Advantage on grapple checks made while submersed waist deep or deeper in water. - Advantage to Survival and Stealth checks made in swamp biome - Natural armor 13 - Thick scales provide base armor 13
Green Viashino - Nope, have named them yet. This kind has smaller mouths, and are the most nimble of the viashino. Smaller green scales, typically jungle dwellling. - +2 Con, +1 Dexr - Medium size - 30' movement, 30' Swim speed, 20' Climb - Languages - Common, Draconic - Proficiencies - Survival and choice of either Acrobatics or Stelath - Spit - Can use deadly spit as an action, dealing 1d6 poison damage, dc save vs being poisoned, only use # of times = proficiency bonus per long rest - Advantage to Survival and Stealth checks made in jungle biome - Natural armor 12 - Thick scales provide base armor 12
Again, I can elaborate on all the details, but just throwing something together before headed off to work. Just trying to make sure I'm not pushing the envelope too much as far as balance is concerned.
