I had a fun idea for a spell, but to be honest I can see how it has the potential to really throw a wrench into game balance. Wanted to hear what other people thought
Draw Potential
5th-level divination (or chronomancy)
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: Touch
Components: V,S,M (a tiny statue or figurine worth 100 GP 1000 GP, which is consumed by the spell)
Duration: Concentration, 1 round
You touch a creature and peer into its future, realizing a power it could one day achieve. You grant this knowledge to the target, who must be yourself or another friendly creature. Until the end of your next turn (while maintaining concentration), the target gains one of the following benefits (your choice):
Mighty Warrior: The target gains a bonus to attack and damage rolls made with weapons equal to your spellcasting ability modifier.
Arcane Master: The target gains a bonus to its spell attack rolls equal to your spellcasting ability modifier. The target gains a bonus to its spell save DC equal to half your spellcasting ability modifier (rounded down).
Legendary Assassin: Once per turn when the target hits a creature with a weapon attack, it deals extra poison damage equal to a number of d6 equal to your spellcasting ability modifier.
Steadfast Bulwark: The target gains a bonus to its AC equal to your spellcasting ability modifier. The target gains a bonus to all saving throws it makes equal to half your spellcasting ability modifier (rounded down)
Alternatively, if the target has levels in a class, you can choose one of the class features currently unavailable to the target and grant it the ability to benefit from that feature for the duration. The creature only benefits from the chosen feature and not any other features which it may be tied to. The chosen feature cannot be of a level higher than three times the level of spell slot expended to cast this spell. The chosen feature can include one that the creature already has but which becomes more powerful at a higher level. You cannot choose a Spellcasting or Pact Magic feature if the selected level would grant the target the ability to cast a spell of higher level than the slot used to cast this spell. The creature does not gain any other benefits of the level of the selected feature (such as an increase in proficiency bonus or changes to other class features which would occur at such a level). If the chosen feature has a duration longer than the duration of the spell, it ends early when the spell ends
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell with a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the duration of the spell increases by 1 round for each slot level about 5th.
Everything was fantastic up until the "alternatively" and "higher levels" bits. With these - extended durations (they're strong benefits, should only be 1 round) and all the highly exploitive "alternatively" bit - the spell is overpowered. Without, it's brilliant and well-balanced.

Yeah, I kinda figured the class feature option might throw things for a loop, but it was a fun idea I wanted to play with.
For the original four benefits, do you still think it is too powerful to let them go for more than one round considering that the spell has a costly material component that is consumed (i.e, this isnt something you will be able to cast every fight unless your DM is super generous)

I would say let's be different. The cost of 1,000 GP is a bit much if you only want a round. 100 gp is fine. But, if we allow upcasting for extended period the spell requires additional 100 gp statues for each higher level.
Or just keep it as 1,000 GP and have it last 1 minute, no upcast needed. That seems fair to me, really.

Thanks for the feedback, Ill think it over. Im probably leaning more towards just removing the upcasting and lowering the cost. Ill probably remove the consumption part and just make it have a regular costly component as well. Most of that was important in modifying the options available for everything after "alternatively" anyway.
Aye. But the spell is already much better so I've changed my votes. Great job, this was a very interesting spell.
