An elf strides onto the battlefield in heavy armor, seemingly invulnerable. Every sword glances off of them, and every arrow misses. Their allies charge forward, inspired by the elf's bravery and power. The orc armies cower and flee. The heroes have won the day! But as soon as the elf finds some privacy, they collapse, clutching their previously invisible wounds, gasping in agonizing pain.
A powerful dictator sits on their child's bed, telling them a story about the horrible Draunee, a monster who comes and takes people away when they misbehave. The child cowers as he listens to the story, then suddenly screams halfway through, pointing at their closet. The dictator turns around, and the last thing he sees is a shadowy figure and a pair of glowing, hateful eyes.
A human and his allies are trapped in a prison. Over the course of days, he collects hundreds of little pieces of scrap metal, mostly spoons, and welds them together with magic. Eventually, he reveals his creation: a set of collapsable wings for him and each of his allies. Together, they fly away from the wretched prison, never to be seen again. The next day, even the Artificer is amazed by the human's work and asks how he did it. The man simply boasts about his great intellect and training, never mentioning for a second that he has no idea how his plan worked or that the wings will never fly again.
This is the concept of the Legend: a "powerful" half-caster class that draws power from belief. They excel in creating awe-inspiring and terrifying spectacles, meant to leave their enemies cowed and their allies inspired, but while they do have some substance to them, it is certainly not as much as they claim to have.
While they are not especially weak combat-wise by any means, they specialize in seeming to be an unstoppable, unbeatable force.
There are three subclasses I have in mind: The Paragon, one who inspires greatness in others by emulating the powers of the legends of old; The Boogeyman, one who inspires terror in entire communities by moving unseen and distorting perceptions; And the Virtuoso, one who comes off as a legendary artisan or genius, despite no one knowing what they're doing or why.
Tell me what you guys think so far!

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
May each word that I speak be backed by each of my teeth.
Alright, so, not much to say other than I really, really, like this concept. Seems like it would be quite fun to play, and the subclasses sound fun, too. The idea of scaring your enemies to the point where they won't even try and see how strong you actually are is cool.

That's all I needed to hear. I actually have it done right now, I just need to digitize it. Basically, they rely on three main mechanics: Legend Form, Awesome Presence, and Mythic Powers.
Legend form is basically them putting on the mask; becoming the alter-ego that the class is based around. It lasts for an hour, and you change your appearance to a specific character that you adopted when you joined this class. Then, you get advantage on Charisma-based ability checks and a butt-load of temporary HP (4x your Legend level). You also can't be vulnerable to any damage types while like this. You can enter this PB times per long rest. (probably will change that to half PB, rounded down, but we'll see.)
Awesome Presence is basically anti-countercharm. You start it as an action, then until the end of your next turn creatures within a certain distance of you have disadvantage on Wis saves and checks. That's kinda interesting, but part of this class is putting riders onto existing features using the next mechanic.
Mythic Powers are basically Eldritch Invocations+. They are way stronger (in some cases), but of course, are focused entirely on making you look like an absolute badass even if you aren't actually all that cool. You also only get 5 of them by level 20, but they are incredibly cool.

Legend Form: Pretty much exactly what I was thinking :)
Awesome Presence: I feel like this will work well with the Mythic Powers, whatever they will be.
Mythic Powers: Super cool, will allow for some fun customization in a character, too. Also, role play opportunities will probably increase :)

I've also made the Paragon and the Boogeyman subclasses.
The Boogeyman:
Lvl1: Terror Form:
You can climb in your Legendary Form, as well as being able to hide as a bonus action with advantage in dim light or darkness.
Lvl1: Black Magic:
Thaumaturgy, Mage Hand, Prestidigitation. Can cast these as a bonus action, as well as casting them as an action.
lvl5: Tormentor:
Basically, instead of an extra attack, literally any weapon you wield can potentially deal 2d8 psychic damage and use Charisma as your attack score. Cus, you know, slasher movie villain.
lvl10: Unstoppable Threat:
Shadow walking (we've seen this before), except you don't have to be able to see the spot, and you can only use it if Awesome Presence is on. Also, you can tell if you're being observed.
lvl15: Unpredictable:
Massive increase to damage output if you attack a creature that you didn't hit last turn (deal extra damage=your Legend level). The extra damage doesn't actually kill targets, but instead puts them into a helpless state where you can basically do whatever you want to them (prone, speed=0, auto fail non-death saves, voice sounds like screaming to everyone except you.) The helpless state ends if they regain any HP.
lvl20: Fear the Unknowable:
Creatures that take damage from Unpredictable must make a Wis save or be frightened (save every round at the end of their turn to end it), and frightened creatures have disadvantage on saves vs your spells.
