So this thing's in alpha, and I want DMs (and players who make monsters while the DM's describing a room) to give me thier minds and what they think should be changed. The gazelle is basically meant to be a good beast companion, mainly for the Beast Master Ranger Archtype, with helpful skills (but not the best damage output), and also the intilligence of a mastiff, which means the player can bond with it very easily, and it also can get food itself from any vegetation, and can go days without water and food, appropriate to its arid habitats. The reasons for the stats I gave it are:
Hit points: The Gazelle IRL is "only" endangered, and for an animal that ws eaten, illegally hunted, and lost habitats for thousands of years it's very impressive. I'd exepect such an animal to be extinct, but it is not, and I give the hit points the honor to acknowledge that. Also, its meat is in super-high demand, so that will probably make it a very thick-skinned animal. Because the leatherwill not make much sense as a natural armor, so it's hit-points are much more than those of other 1/4 CR beasts. Modifiers: I decided it will use its Strength modifier (zero) for its attacks because it doesn't make much sense it will use its dexerity to hit somthing with the hooves, and also so it stays in 1/4 CR. However, I think it will use its dexerity to knock down a creature since a creature in the size if a gazelle will probably rely on getting to the pressure points rather than brutely ramming the opponent. I also wanted it to fit in the recommended save DC for 1/4 CR creatures in the D.M.G. Saving throws: I gave the gazelle a proficiency in the dexterity saving throw since it can climb a mountain with 0% chance of falling and it survived hunters with rifles, so that would make it very good with this svaing throw. That's the same reason it has the Sure-Footed trait, since it can hold the ground as good if not better than a goat. Panic: It is one of the fastest prey-animals (it's also in high demand by canivores) on earth. So it would have no problem with going 120 ft. at a single turn and attack. However, I had no idea how would that affect its challenge rating (I only have access to PHB, MM and DMG), so tell me how do you think it should. What do you think should change? I made this beast based on the real life gazelle and it's still in alpha so I want you to give me suggestions how to modify it.
This is the beast
