I'm a relatively new DM and I've drawn up some homebrew rules for how death/resurrection works. I want to introduce a way of denying infinite resurrection of a character. Rules as written, you are only constrained by spellcasting ability and access to diamonds. I could just make diamonds super rare, but thought I would experiment with some rules. Rules are as follows:
Soul Tethers The soul is connected to the body by a Soul Tether. Each time a soul is returned to a body through revivify, resurrect or similar the Soul Tether loses some of its strength. If a Tether is broken, the soul can no longer be returned to its body. A Soul Tether has 20 vitality points (VP). Each time a resurrection is successful, roll a d8 for the character who underwent the resurrection, and subtract the result from the Soul Tether VP. VP are reduced this way each time a character is resurrected. If a resurrection causes a Soul Tether to drop to 0 VP or below, the tether snaps and is destroyed. The individual is resurrected as normal, but can no longer be resurrected if they die again. If the soul is removed or displaced from the body in a non-violent manner, the Soul Tether is not affected if the soul returns to the body and no VP are lost.
My thinking is this gives a character a minimum of 3 rezzes, average of 5, and potential for way more. It does just add a touch more risk to death and resurrection. Any thoughts/criticisms/comments would be welcome!

Hello there,
I'm a relatively new DM and I've drawn up some homebrew rules for how death/resurrection works. I want to introduce a way of denying infinite resurrection of a character.
