I'm working on a campaign for some friends. The first boss they'll be thwarting and encountering is a Puppet Master. He has created scarecrows that have been attacking farmers in the fields. Floating swords and Animated armor have been killing the town guards as they sleep in the barracks. When they reach his lab, I want him to try animating the groups weapons against them, he'll have an animated armor or two protecting him, and as a last ditch effort, I want him to summon a Shield Guardian, however the shield guardian won't be complete (mainly because they'll be level 3-5ish). But I was hoping to get some more ideas on what else he might be able to do. I am relatively new to DMing so any help would be appreciated.

Try the monsters in the back of this adventure by 1d6Adventurers, especially the marionette.
