So I'm trying to homebrew a medium golem (not a flesh golem) for my character to have as a partner for the campaign (5E). My DM is definitely open to the idea, but ONLY if I can make it fair with reasonable abilities. These are the rules or ideas I'm currently kicking around:
It is magic-based. Having it active locks a spell slot (amount to be determined). So if I have three spell slots, I would be locked to one or two.
When the golem is deactivated, the spell slot isn't refunded until a long rest
AC and Hit Points kinda based around mine, or based on how many and what level of spell slots I use
Commanding them would be a bonus action. Sort of building off the Beast Master, aside from having to use an action
My character would need to buy materials to create the golem. Thinking of a base material (stone, iron, steel, clay) and then some sort of gem for the core.Would have low level spells based off the gem used as the core
Does anyone have any ideas that would make this better/fairer?
