This is a good rule to use for if your players are being detectives or your players are all over the place when they try to interrogate a NPC or creature if it can talk (I'll be using NPC for explaining)
So how it works is that only players roll initiative and at the start of their turns they ask a question to the NPC. NPC will answer a question that can be a lie or truth. The PC can use their action to use it to roll a skill that can help have a higher success of spitting truths out of the NPC. The bonus action can be used to talk to the NPC again. The PCs can also use their action to attack and start combat. Then make the NPC roll for combat.
For example: One of the players says to the NPC. "Where did you hide the weapons." The NPC says, "I don't know." The player tells the DM that he/she is rolling for insight to check if the NPC is lying. The player rolls, gets a success on the roll against the DC of the DM. The DM tells the player that the NPC is lying. Then the player uses his/her bonus action to tell the NPC to spit the truth or he/she will do something worse. The NPC tells the player as the NPC can't lie to the player.
That is how it will work. You can change it to make it easier or better for your comfort or take inspiration to make your own way of interrogation.
