I'm trying to create a homebrew weapon that gives the user proficiency with it while the user is attuned. It's a greatsword, and I realize I could just give it proficiency with greatswords but I'm picky and like making things perfect. I thought maybe doing modifier type bonus, subtype proficiency might help but it's not. As a result I guess my question would be is there a way of doing this, and secondly is there a list of what all the various subtypes and types will do? As some don't seem to make much sense to me.
Yeah I made sure to be attuned. Modifier proficiency -greatsword works, when the character is attuned their to hit increases by proficiency. When using the self option and attuned it goes back to the no proficiency level.

Thanks for the help!
It should be possible to grant proficiency with that item only. A modifier set to “Proficiency > Self” should do it for you.
as for the latter part - I’m not sure if there’s a compiled list.
Please take a look at my homebrewed Spells, Magic Items, and Subclasses. Any feedback appreciated.
Thanks for the advice but sadly it didn't seem to work :/
When testing the item, are you making sure to attune it?
The modifier I thought would work is proficiency - greatsword.
Huh, I always assumed that did. Looks like greatsword proficiency is the way to go then, although that gives proficiency with *all* greatswords.
