The short of it, three out of four players got killed, but they have access to a powerful guild and are boat ride away from resurrection since they have lots of money. I don't want this to seem too mechanical and easy, but I don't want the game to end - especially since I have 1 player still alive. The characters are a moon druid/totem barbarian firbolg, a zealot barbarian minotaur, and an arcane trickster tiefling
The long of it, I've had them on a modified version of "Lost Laboratory of Kawalish" in which they've just returned to the capital city after a successful side quest that made them full guild members of a prestigious adventurers guild, and are still hunting for the lost city. However one of the cambians they fought (with the petrification sword) got away, and use Kawalish's tech to open a portal under the capital city. They used transport via plant from a druid leader, but due to the city being attacked they were ejected via protective spells. Landed on a beach half dead, but decided to draw attention and fight rather than run and save civilians as they could. They did very well, saved a lot of live, but TPKd just as cavalry arrived. With 10k+ gold to each of their names, and a surviving member to verify things, they have access to guild privileges, but here's the thing.
I was looking into sort of merging Kawalish into Descent into Avernus, seeing as I already have the foundation of a city being stolen into the the hells. Now with the players since they had infernal wounds when they died, would it make sense to maybe have them come back as revenants? Searching for their souls stolen in hell, maybe even trapped as soul coins?
Also would it make sense at all to have the goal of the adventurers change to finding Kawalish so that they can use his last gate that is connected to slime kingdom of the abyss, and use the river Styx to get to Avernus via an improved Kawalish apparatus? Does any of this make sense or am I crazy?
