Right so Mystic is dead which has a downside that is a player was using mystic and hoped to get their class worked on that will not be happening for the forseeable. I have a mystic in my own game and we agreed that we would happily wait with it in its half baked current state with the hope of seeing an update soon, as it isnt happening I am going to do that for my player now cause its unfair they have that mess of a class to deal with.
So with that out of the way here are the key tennants for what I am trying to do which are setting constraints for the design. If your feedback is either a) player shouldnt be playing mystic and should change class or b) you suggest something outside of the constraint it is just getting ignored.
Has to be able to work with characters currently using the mystic class UA (exception if current UA subclasses like Soulknife for other classes can take over for it)
Has to try to bring some level of balance to the class.
Has to try and bring still feel like the mystic in its end result
So I have been pulling in rescources including the first, second and third mystic UAs as there are differences in each iteration and I feel in some cases earlier designs did parts better. I also have after hours of searching through Twitch's terrible UI found the Mike Mearls Happy Fun Hour videos to also pull upon (WotC pulled their Youtube versions - Yes I am bitter). SO am pulling ideas from these sources.
The reason I have made this post is the following:
For abilities there are two ways I can see allowing a casting type effect that isnt just spellcasting like every other class.
Option A: Keep the dicipline system. This is the easiest in a design sense in that it require 0 conversion work. Has the advantage of allowing psionics to feel very different from regular spellcasters and I am thinking of bringing back the lesser and greater discipline system which would mean certin disciplines could not be taken until level 5 and were locked to the order meaning you couldnt just go I am an Awakened psion for the subclass features but am pretty much only taking avatar disciplines cause lol. Downside however is this has a jarring disconnect from the current psionic subclasses in the game (both UA and published) and have a disconnect from monsters in the game with psionics.
Option B: Move to the spell casting system but keep psi points. This works by treating psi points as spell points found in the DMG, obviously numbers will need looking at and discipline effects that we may want to keep will need converting into spells (though each having psi points cost may help with that). Upside is this is more interactable with the current spellcasting system and way the psionics have been moving while keeping a bit of a uniqe flair so it doesnt look like psionics is just a subschool of magic. Downside is it means even more homogonising of classes and you lose the focus system and unless I manage to get real creative lose the ability to make the orders feel seperate in what they can do which is the current problem of the mystic.
So what I would like feedback on is which of the two options do people like. To reiterate comments saying move to other classes and like like will be just ignored.

I have looked at the new UAs Psionic talent die and while great for a class that is psionic + other class and that element of not fully being in control of your psionics. I feel being part of a class who is entirely built around psionics it doesnt feel right, it would be like giving the wizard randomly fluctuating uses of spells per day which sounds more like something for a wild magic sorcerer than a wizard.
