I'm using these changes in my home game for monk. So far it seems to make the play of the monk more mobile and fun. Can anyone think of whether this is broken or could be broken by players? My table testing is limited to date so thoughts are appreciated. No player of mine has gotten to perfect body but it just feels a better version than what's already in play. Homebrewery link below.
My homebrew game also uses armor as DR which is where the idea of giving the monk access to dodge more reliably came out of. Dodge is a mechanism to mitigate damage without just giving the monk DR to balance combat.
Wearing armor also grants Damage Reduction (DR).The amount of DR is 1 for light armor or natural armor 1-3, 2 for medium or natural armor 4-6, 3 for heavy or natural armor 7-9. Additionally a wielded shield grants 1 DR which stacks with other DR granted by armor.
E.g. a fighter is wearing a breast plate (medium armor) and wields a longsword in one hand and a shield in the other. That fighter has DR of 3. Regardless of armor no creature can benefit from armor based damage reduction against a damage type it is vulnerable to. For example an armored knight soaked from torrential rain is likely vulnerable to lighting damage while the same Knight may be vulnerable to fire if doused in lamp oil.
