Greetings fellow adventures! Today, I come seeking guidance and input on an idea for a type of undead I'm creating as an encounter for my fifth level party and if something like this already exists.
Now, the basic idea for this undead is a zombie whose body has become a massive bee/wasp hive. Their ecology being that the particular bees/wasps nesting within the undead kill and make walking hives out of whatever medium or larger creature they kill.
It would have multi-attack. Something like two slams, a slam and a bite, or (seeing as this encounter will happen on a farm) two attacks with whatever shovel, pick, or other farming equipment they happened to be holding).
And then, as more damage is dealt to it, the bees/wasps will get agitated and attack as well. Dealing 4d4 damage to any creature within 5ft of the hive while imposing disadvantage to those that close as well (because anything becomes harder while getting stung by bees).
However, the damage and disadvantage imposed by the bees/wasps can be mitigated by using fire damage (think using smoke to settle a hive... or just straight up torching the black and yellow bastards).
I was also thinking of having the zombie itself take double damage from fire, as rather than looking like your typical flesh-rotting away in the sun zombie, its skin appears to be becoming the material that makes up bee/wasp nests.
So, what do you guys think? Does the concept as a whole work, or are their tweaks that need to be made? And, does something like this already exist in a monster manual I don't have access to? Would suck properly to go through all the trouble of statting this thing out only to find that WOTC already did it for me.
Thanks in advance for your input, and may the chests you find be bereft of any tongues or teeth.
i think the concept is pretty cool, i don't think it's been done, my only input is maybe instead of just saying disadvantage, you can give the poisoned condition, since some bees/wasps stings are poisonous
