This is the piece of equipment I've been coming up with (it's based off something from a book, 10 internet points for whoever gets it). The idea is that it's very situational to use, but does a lot of damage when it works - it should be enough to knock most creatures back and kill any general or low level monsters. You can avoid it by hiding for 3 days, and chances are after firing it you won't be getting it back!
So, is 8D10 too much, or too little? I don't want this to result in a BBEG getting killed early, though DM tricks such as it being the wrong blood can save you there. I'm actually feeling it needs to do more damage.
8d10 is about 44 damage (average) so I don't think its too much (especially for a legendary item!). It would make for a really cool scene of fighting the BBEG and when he flees with dimension door (as BBEG's tend to do) after his health gets low, use this to get that last hit on it lol.
I actually really like this item, though it may feel a little underwhelming as its kinda a one-n-done thing.

Thanks for the feedback! I am considering changing it to a crossbow rather than just the bolt, but I don't want it to become the final word in every fight!
