Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: I played through middle and highschool using 3.5e but have only had haphazard experiences in 5e which have all fallen through due to real-life complications. Location/Timezone: Mountain Standard Time (and I live in a region that does NOT use Daylight Savings Time) Availability: Weekday evenings, 7pm to 10pm Preferred role: Player Game style: I would like to try my hand at a more balanced roleplay-to-combat ratio, having really only played on either extreme. I don't want to practically ignore the world the DM has created just to roll dice but I don't want to spend entire sessions (sometimes 6+ consecutively in rare instances) ONLY talking things out and the like. Not looking for anything particularly complex, though, as far as mechanics go on the combat side of things. I'm still very mentally stuck in 3.5e and looking through my 5e books is still throwing me for a few loops here and there.
(Additional Note: When I roleplay certain types of characters that have language or other communication barriers, let's say...we'll make this an easy example and say something like a dwarf. If I'm playing one that has an EXTREMELY rough accent, I will type it out to be interpreted as such. If the other players don't quite make out everything I say, I am the type to generally encourage using your best judgment ala "how would you REALLY react to that?"
Either being ignored, dismissed, having assumptions made based on context, or even just your general 'ummm....okay?' is something I love as far these kind of minor but yet still impactful things go. It's very difficult to convincingly play an awkward, misunderstood character when people just act off of the idea that they can perfectly understand what they're saying and are perceptive to their mannerisms.
There are other kinds of roleplaying that I have appreciation for but that was just a more basic example to illustrate.)
