Summary of The Grove
The Grove offers Players and Dungeon Masters alike, a home to stretch their roleplaying muscles. While more restrictive than most other servers out there, we do it to try and bring a sense of balance to our homebrew mechanics to fit a Play By Post and Real World environment. As such, features like Downtime Activities are not locked behind time gates, such as waiting for hours in the real world to complete. But instead allows the player to undertake tasks as often as they can play in Dungeon Master run encounters.
Additionally avid Roleplayers who do not want to play in encounters, have a home with our Civilian Player features, which grants them more power on a daily basis than ordinary players and are able to assist in the living economy and story of the Living World.
The Grove looks at all modules released for 5th Edition D&D and hand selects locations that appear to be common between as many modules as possible or seem close enough to those in other modules that they can be included within the same space. Unfortunately we cannot represent the entirety that is the Sword Coast within a single server, and chose not to break away from a single server setup. But we do listen to feedback, and if there is a location that should be in the world, but currently isn't we will attempt to add it within the Discord channel limitations.
What to Expect from Us.
We constantly try to maintain the Community Expectations and uphold their values, even going so far as to introduce Player Safety Features to help protect players who may feel like content is a bit too vulgar at times, or even uncomfortable for them. Staff strive to make the server a safe space for all to play and enjoy the game that is 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons.
The play format is similar to that of Adventure League / Westmarch rules, where in a player creates a character that fits the limitations placed on them by the server and is free to roleplay any and all aspects of their character freely. There are scheduled games run by Dungeon Masters that players can and should attempt to get in on if it's convenient for them to join in on and even perhaps start their own fully functional guilds later in the future.
The Grove strives to be a complete encompassing of everything that makes 5th Edition the amazing game that is it and if you have suggestions we are eager to listen and see if we can add them at some stage later on. Who knows, the feature you are requesting may already be on our minds, and we just haven't figured out a way to make it work at the present time. We want you to enjoy the game just as much as we do.
In closing, if The Grove sounds like a place you want to check out, the link is at the top and all other information can be found within our wiki. We do so hope to see you soon.
We have spent the last two weeks bringing about balance changes to the crafting system which saw us reinstate the Artificer class as a result within our server.
There are still many banned and altered mechanics and features to help bring about a sense of balance in a bigger environment. But we are still looking for Players and Dungeon Masters alike.
Crafting has been expanded to accommodate the new recipe systems we have on the server from 1 > 3 per encounter.
Artificer Crafting via their level 10 trait will grant an additional 3 crafts per encounter.
Gatherings per encounter has been increased from 6 > 8.
Van Richten's Content has been approved on the server, and officially added to the Banned / Allowed listing.
Spending Hit Dice during a Short Rest will confer the maximum value per hit die spent. Bringing it in line with Healing Potions while in combat, and allowing for harder encounters.
Cooking has been released.
Cooking Update
Cooking works much in the way that potions do, players proficient in Cooking Utensils can craft meals and drinks which can grant benefits like fire resistance or temporary health points. These effects are similar to potions, but instead uses Animal and Fish products instead of Herbs and Minerals. Additionally a well crafted meal can give any player who consumes it an inspiration point.
You can read more about the cooking rules over on our Wiki, including the recipes and their effects. This is still a work in progress, but we hope it brings more diversity to skills being used in our Server.
What's to Come?
We still have to implement the player housing system, and faction upgrade system along with rules for long lasting Diseases.
But we must complete the Crafting Recipe system for all 600+ magical items within the D&D World, we are always looking for additional members eager to lend a helping hand in sorting out the items which are too powerful for the scope of the server, and add in recipes which reflect how an item would likely be crafted.
Additionally, we are always looking for new players who are looking to play in a more structured environment and hardcore style of play than you would find on most other West March servers and DM's who are either experienced or starting out within the D&D 5e Universe and want to get valuable feedback on how they could improve.
