Welcome adventures and role-players! Happy New Year! Before getting into it, this is going to be a very long and in-depth post. I take my role as GM very seriously and I hope that comes across with my thoroughness. I want every single one of my games to be the best it can be for all of my players. Thank you for taking the time to read through this whole post!
I am looking for 4 or 5 players for a modified Curse of Strahd campaign. I am LGBTQ+ and beginner players friendly!
Brief Description Of The Campaign ___
The Curse of Strahd module is a gothic horror adventure for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. The campaign provides a similar atmosphere to Castlevania and other dark fantasy mediums like it. This module has every classic gothic horror trope, as well as classic monsters from werewolves to vampires, ghosts, and more.
Curse of Strahd is a heavy roleplay-oriented module. This Campaign's roleplay to combat ratio is approximitly 70 to 30, meaning that you can expect to go for several sessions with no combat, then a sudden burst of it in certain areas. A large part of the module’s content comes from investigating mysteries, exploring character backstories, building relationships with helpful NPCs, and dealing with Strahd as a social antagonist. Players will thrive if they prefer roleplay, investigation, and relationship-building to combat or dungeon-delving.
Curse of Strahd is also brutal, stressful, and an alienating experience. My Houserules don't make it any easier either, as I prefer the game to be a on the grittier side. Your character will be trapped in a bleak and gothic land where hope is very rarely afforded to them. The adventure contains several encounters and areas that will likely be far beyond your capabilities when you first encounter them. It can be rare to find normally readily-available loot or magical items. However, that does not mean it is **all** doom and gloom. You **are** the heroes of this story. Those small instances of victory, or when faith and the will to persevere through the bleakest of moments **can** slowly pile throughout the story, eventually leading to a climatic conclusion where your wits and strength will be tested.
Curse of Strahd is widely considered to be the best 5e module, and thus, there are many online resources that can be added to the Adventure to enhance it. From genderbending Strahd to making it a full on sea faring adventure, the amount of online resources is staggering and amazing. I will following the most popular of these, Mandymod's Fleshing Out Series, which keeps the core of the adventure intact, while greatly enhancing and expanding on its base. I have ran this adventure a total of 3 times now, and these expansions have always been my favorite.
Content Trigger Warning ___
Curse of Strahd, is full of disturbing and graphic content. This is a list of things that might appear in the game. If you are potentially triggered or are not comfortable by these elements, you can speak with me about potentially working around or entirely avoiding these elements during or after Session 0. Here is the list.
Child abuse, murder, stalking, gaslighting, racism, torture, mind control, cannibalism, situations paralleling sexual assault, child death, references to stillbirth/miscarriage, abuse of those with disabilities or mental illness, animal cruelty, body horror, child abandonment, portrayals of alcoholism or drug abuse, potential incest, implied necrophilia, or suicide.
Still Interested? ___
If not, I hope you find the game that better suits your taste and good luck!
If, after reading this far, you think Curse of Strahd is the perfect campaign for you, awesome! We will have a fantastic time! Please continue reading before applying for the game!
Who am I as a GM? ___
My name is M. (He/Him)
I am a Game Master who has been running TTRPGs for a total of 6 years. Most of my experience comes from running 5e, but I have dabbled and ran other systems like Call of Cthulhu, Pathfinder 2e, and the Starwars TTRPG.
I exclusively run pre written modules and one shots. I find that using my time towards improving source material much more worthwhile than trying to wrack my brain to come up with new stuff. In my opinion, it is super daunting to create a Homebrew world by scratch, so Id rather not do it!
In my 6 years of being a GM, I have gone through many campaigns and oneshot. From Curse of Strahd to Waterdeep: Dragon Heist to the more recent Icewind Dale, I have played a lot of long form adventure models online and friends irl. My favorite module, apart from Curse of Strahd, would be a 3rd party adventure called Odyssey of the Dragonlords.
I love immersing my players in the game with all sorts of facets. You can expect curated music, quality maps and personalized quests tied to your PCs.
I am not currently a "professional gamemaster" by any means. This is my second foray into running for a paid group, and because of that, I plan to put all my time and effort into making this campaign as good as it possibly can be.
I am by no means a professional voice actor, but you can expect me to at least try to make each NPC feel unique in their own way.
Feel free to message me on Discord (CasualInsight#7346) or on reddit and I will answer any and all questions you may have about the game or myself.
Tactile Information ___
System and Game
We will be playing Dungeons and Dragons 5e, with a modified Curse of Strahd.
Levels
It will be milestone based, and start at level 1 and possibly end at level 15 if players go though a majority of the content.
House Rules and Player Primer
There will be a good amount of Houserules, you can find that list as well as character creation rules here.
We will be building our characters in Foundry itself or DnDbeyond if you find that easier.
Length and Times of Sessions
The sessions should last 3.5 to 4 hours. There will always be 15 minute break at the half way mark. The time and days of play will be decided on player availability. This campaign can be very long, so know that it could take up to 1 or 2 years. We will be playing every week excluding holidays.
Requirements
In order to play you will need a decent computer with fairly swift internet download speeds. We will be using Foundry VTT - which is similar to Roll20. You do not need to purchase Foundry, it is free for the players. Older computers or those with slower internet will lag and be outright unplayable with all the moving parts of Foundry. Please check you can run Foundry by visiting -
Click any player and the password is foundry. Move around and change the scenes to see if it is something you can run.
We will be using Discord for voice chat. I ask that you have a quality microphone and can speak English fluently.
New Players?
Even though the campaign is dark, grim and difficult, that should not dissuade new player from trying it! I don't claim to know every single little rule in the book, but I have a very good grasp on it after all these years. I will be there to help guide you through all of it. I will also provide any PDFs and resource you might need to get started.
Number of Players
I am looking 4 or 5 players for this campaign. I want to ensure everyone has the time to shine, have their voice be heard, and feel like a cohesive group without being overshadowed by multiple players. I never understood how people can run games for more than 5 players. That does not sound fun for the DM nor the people playing it.
Safety Tools
The game is LGBTQ+ friendly. I don't usually have any problems with players, but it has to be stated that I do not tolerate racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or misogynistic comments or actions. Bullying or anything of that nature should have no place at a table where we play pretend. Please be respectful of others, otherwise I will have to kick you from my games. I would love to give the benefit of the doubt in most cases, so I usually only give 1 more chance if anything is outrightly said or done after an apology or anything of that nature.
We will be also be using the "X" Card in our games to ensure that if anything does come up that a player wishes to no longer do, they will be able to do that anonymously.
Payment Information ___
The normal price for the game will be $15 (USD) per session per player. This can be also be paid monthly too. (At player discretion, if you wish to play with a smaller group of 3 players, the price does have to change to $20 dollars per player per session)
Session 0 and 1 will be free.
These 2 session should give you a feel check to see whether or not you enjoy the random group of strangers (soon to be friends with luck) you will be playing with for hopefully the next 2 years.
All payments should be taken up to 24 hours before a session. I will not police you if you are running late on a payment. I hope that you as a player will try to be on time. I will only bring it up if it gets to 2+ sessions of being late. I will also have a public spreadsheet of dates of games with X’s to mark when payments are made for full transparency.
Payments are through PayPal or *****. If you don’t have a way to pay through these avenues but still want to play, then please apply and we can discuss possibly coming up with alternative payment methods.
If you pay monthly and are unable to continue playing, I will give a full refund for any outstanding prepayment.
You made it to the end!
I will be contacting you on discord or you can contact me at CasualInsight#7346 if you have any questions or concerns!
