-Free. I'm not charging for me to have fun too. On Owlbear rodeo since dndbeyond is only in alpha for their maps.
I played an old school game a couple weeks ago and miss my blue box gaming days. It was fun, but deadly, which made it even more fun for me.
Would anyone like to play an old school game? I'm talking OD&D with expert.
Im thinking weekends, morning preferred, every other week, or even once a month. If you miss a session or two, that's fine, but your character wont gain the xp they missed.
I would like a more dungeon crawlie game to start, with players willing to pick a plot hook, then expanding from there. I will discuss what the party wants to do next session so i can prepare, that way you have agency, and i dont waste my time prepping stuff you dont want to do. The first session, session 0, will be character creation, then starting on a 'mission in progress', and once that dungeon is done, we can move on to plot hooks, etc. Saves time, and lets us see how we play together. If you want to try seducing everyone, or spend your time trying to swindle NPC's, my table probably isn't for you.
I make rulings, not rules. I'm fair but that means you might die. Please dont invest your emotions into your characters backstory because they are likely to die. I prefer making characters stories at the table, not their backstory, though you can/should make 1-2 VAGUE backstory bulletpoints and we can explore that. I.E. "Part of a fallen noble house" as opposed to "was 2nd in line to the throne but family tried to eliminate them for succession". You're level one. I'm not going make a campaign where you hog the limelight from other players to become a king/queen.
You're not the protagonist.
I'm not good at voices, so i switch between narrating and simple voiced responses. You are more than welcome to do voices, but dont expect me to. I'm not Mercer. Usually i tend to do interactions to get the gist of your roleplay, make any appropriate rolls, then give you the results. Saves time and lets the game continue so others dont feel like one person takes all the tabletime.
House Rules OD&D w/ expert
- Non Sexual Non Political - No PVP - Class HD as damage dice (Allows you to play your favorite weapon for flavor instead of having to play a weapon you may not like just for damage) - Board + Sword = +1 AC - Long Weapons = Reach - Dual Wielding = +1 dmg OR defensive/no attack +1 AC - 2h = +1 ToHit - Remove Slow ( all of these are simple ways to make 'tactical' decisions for weapons and give you better options for other types of weapons)
- Max HP at lvl 1 - 0 HP, Save vs Death to be unconscious, fail is death - Down the line, can swap 2 scores - Species as Classes - Optional D6 For Thief, Barbarian, Assassin from Carcass Crawler, Or White Box (Way easier and more in your favor than OD&D rules) - Fighters start at 17Thaco(+2 for ascending armor class rules) (Just shifts them up one and make fighters actually playable) - Ascending armor class, not thaco, unless everyone wants thaco -Morale Used - Basic Encumbrance - Secondary Skills - 1’s and 20’s are not god tier rolls. (Rolling a 20 doesn’t mean a king will gift you their kingdom, but it will shift their ineractions with your a tier positive or negative) - Alternating Combat Phases*** (This is an optional rule from OD&D and prevents certain death for players if they are surprised and the enemy wins first initiative. It means if you lose initiative, monsters do their part of the phase, "Movement" then you get to do "movement", then they do next step, then you next step, instead of them doing everything, and then you. This eliminates the crazy 'swingy' battles that make TPK's easier to avoid in OD&D. This was an optional rule i read somewhere and everyone who's used it has like it. )
