Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online Experience: open to all at least 18 and up Location/Timezone: UTC-5, eastern US Schedule: Sunday nights 9 PM eastern Roles sought: Players 1-2 temp to long term Game style: right now the game is heavily focused on RP, will shift to more of a mix when the current arc ends.
Greetings! I’m Jason, the DM for a homebrew campaign set in the world of Variel. Our group recently lost some players, so we’re looking to bring in one or two new people. Ideally, folks who want to give the game a try for a few sessions first, just to see if the fit feels right for everyone.
A quick upfront note: I’m not some master-tier DM. I’m still learning, still improving, and I value players who enjoy collaboration, communication, and patience as we grow the story together.
What the campaign is like: Right now, we’re in a very roleplay-heavy arc. Characters are not level 1 yet. They’re effectively “normal people” working with NPC-tier stats, starting only with what their heritage and upbringing would realistically give them. Players progress by attending classes, taking on extracurriculars, navigating relationships, and building the foundation of who they’ll eventually become.
This school arc lasts a good while, and once it’s complete, the party graduates into proper adventurer levels. but with extra benefits, buffs, proficiencies, and advantages earned through their time at the academy. So instead of a normal level-1 start, you end up with a version of your class that feels richer and more lived-in, and generally will be more powerful than normal. I will also add that we are looking for individuals over 18. not that there is any NSFW roleplay or anything, just a preference of our group
There is a good amount of homebrew and custom systems involved, including a modified downtime/track system inspired by a certain well-known liveplay. If you only want pure PHB/official content, or if your fun comes mostly from min-maxing or hyper-optimized builds, then this probably isn’t the game for you.
If you enjoy RP, character development, slow-burn progression, and trying something a little different mechanically, you’ll probably fit right in.
Who we’re looking for: 1–2 players to join on a trial basis Not an audition. just a chance for both sides to feel out the vibe People who communicate, collaborate, and help keep things moving. Players who enjoy character-driven stories and long-term worldbuilding. Newer players are totally welcome, as are veterans who enjoy RP tables.
We’re very big on making sure no one joins something that doesn’t actually match what they want out of a game, so there’s zero pressure. Come hang out for a few sessions and see how it feels.
Current party Two aasimar cousins: one an Artificer/Wizard, the other a Warlock, A Bugbear Sorcerer, and a Warforged Fighter
We’re excited to welcome someone who complements the group, not necessarily in class balance, but in energy and storytelling style.
If this sounds like the kind of game you’d enjoy, feel free to reach out. Happy to chat, answer questions, or help you figure out a character concept that fits the tone of the campaign. Hope to hear from you!

Please answer the following questions. There is no correct answer to them, it's just something to talk about during interviews way for me to learn who you are:
You've worked hard to develop a character idea, background, and cool abilities. How do you handle it if you find that things aren't as you pictured them? (The story isn't what you pictured, abilities nerfed)
How would you handle a situation where your actions in-game have translated into conflict within the group?
If a situation comes up where rules are unclear and a decision needs to be made, how would you proceed?
Anything else you would like to add, or like me to know
Hello! I am very interested in possibly joining this campaign! My name is Kaleb I am 20 years old and I have been playing DND consistently for several years now. I really am hoping to join a campaign that I can really bond and have fun with the players and DM while also telling a cool story. Looking at player composition I would love to play someone like a cleric to give the party a healer, and also explore the dynamics of what its like trying to become a cleric in this world. I most likely would make them a human since its my go to species/race since in my head in a dnd world were you can be anything picking a human I find to be hilarious and somewhat of an outlier. I'd love to learn more about how I could implement a character in the world and have things go smoothly and fun! My discord is klore75 and I hope to be able to play with you all! Have a great day/night!

Are you sure of the start time of this game and have time to commit to playing: Absolutely, It would be a rarity for me to miss a session, from my experience playing I rarely ever do.
What are you looking for in an ongoing campaign?: I just love character development and getting to know the characters and watching as they grow and evolve and create fun dynamics and tell a really cool and amazing story, that stuff makes me so happy and is why I love DND
What is something you would like to avoid in a game?: A player is so absurdly powerful because of homebrew that it becomes unfun. I think homebrew is awesome and can be really great, but it can be kind of annoying when a player uses homebrew to become overpowered when other players don't get those same luxuries at least. There is a certain delicate balance between "Oh this homebrew is so cool!" to "Hmm this seems a bit OP don't you think?"
What kind of character are you interested in playing : Human Cleric to give the party a healer and also to explore those dynamics of fledgling cleric trying to find grasp of magical power from a deity. Doesn't need to be this but just an idea.
You've worked hard to develop a character idea, background, and cool abilities. How do you handle it if you find that things aren't as you pictured them? (The story isn't what you pictured, abilities nerfed) : I typically like to create my characters as I play them, I obviously give them a backstory and stuff but in terms of expectations of development that is entirely based on what happens in the game. The story shapes how the characters change and evolve and so if things "Dont go as expected" thats all just apart of playing the game. I usually dont go into games with big expectations I just go in seeing what will happen and then just roleplaying with it. Characters arent just going to be perfect and as you picture them they will mold and change and evolve and constantly be different as the story changes them and they progress.
How would you handle a situation where your actions in-game have translated into conflict within the group?: I would simply apologize, I've been playing dnd for years and this has never happened for me but if it did I would feel horrible and want to course correct to not do that kind of thing again.
if a situation comes up where rules are unclear and a decision needs to be made, how would you proceed? : Easy Question, DM always gets final say on everything, they are the one who is running the game for us so it only makes sense.
Sorry for not adding responses to these questions before, I saw your post before you edited it or just didn't scroll down or something? Either way my bad, the responses are here now! Lol. (Also The spacing of my numbered responses is annoying and messed up I don't know how to fix it so my bad for that as well lmao)
