Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Discord & Roll20 or offline Experience: Played in 3 or 4 campaigns over last 8 years Location/Timezone: Sarasota, FL... Hi, I'm looking for a group that meets mid-day or will meet mid-day either Tuesday or Wednesday (or both, if you're running two days) that end before 7:00 PM EST. I have been in a lot of games that fizzled out before getting very far in the story, so I'd really like a solid group with players and a DM that can commit to playing the game for a long time, and meets consistently... like I'm pretty sure most people want. I'm over 21, and would prefer to join a group that is over 21 and enjoys social drinking around the D&D table... otherwise I'll be the only drunk person in the room, and I'll look like an ass.
I am hoping to find a group with a DM that enjoys very large-scale campaigns with lots of overland travel, a little bit of in-game politics, and well-thought out, diverse worlds in terms of species and creature representation. DM's who prefer making their own worlds from scratch and crafting their own lore and history take the cake, because that's what I enjoy doing when I DM.
I generally play spellcasters, and will probably want to run a Wizard, Sorcerer or Druid. I dislike having limitations on character alignment, such as not being able to play an evil character. I like designing characters shaped by the world they live in, and who have a reason for being where they are, so any group where I can collaborate backstory with either the DM, other players or both is ideal. I'm also perfectly fine with re-rolling a new character for a campaign if mine dies... hell, that's part of the game.
I do like to play as and with characters who are odd or unique... wherein something about them is or can become part of the story. For example... a changeling who's in an alter ego for the majority of the campaign, but is really associated with an enemy force or something; or a character that was created by magical means such as the True Polymorph or Awaken spells by the very Wizard that the party is on a quest to look for. The best adventures are ones where everyone's unique stories or features are all somehow relevant to the overall plot, and that relevance gets revealed over time.
As for the content of the game and the theme of the story itself? I don't have much of a preference. Demon prince taking over the kingdom? Sure, let's do it. Mindflayer invasion? I don't see why not. Adventures to some distant land to seek forbidden treasures? Count me in. The whole campaign is all about killing a single dragon? Let me get my sword. The only thing I absolutely don't want to do is dive into underground criminal organizations, join the mafia or form a "syndicate." For some reason that's been real popular in recent games and I'm kind of sick of it.
Lastly, I like the difficulty level to be semi-realistic in a way that punishes outlandish behaviors or actions that just... aren't thought out very well. I like it when going down in a fight means some injuries have occurred that take some time to recover, even with magical healing. I like it when power gains have a price beyond gold. And god damn it, vampires, dragons and demons shouldn't be something I can grab a few guys and go take down in an afternoon. Even mundane magical creatures should pose some difficulty.
Heyo, I have a short campaign game running on my discord server at 4pm cdt on tuesdays, once we're done with it in a few weeks we'll probably be starting a long term campaign with the same DM and party, and you seem like the perfect fit for his DM style and a good fit for the server in general, so if you're interested in checkin us out add me, my id is Zionswasd#8143.
