Hello friends, me and some friends are starting a new campaign and I had a really cool idea for a Blood Hunter / Monk Combo.
I would dip 3 levels into Blood Hunter, so that I could transform into a Lycan.
Then put 2 points into Monk so I can get Ki Points and Flurry of Blows.
then 2 more into Blood Hunter, to get it to level 5 so I can attack twice.
After that the vast majority of points will go into Blood Hunter, but I will eventually dip into Monk a bit further to get Way of the Open Hand.
My thought process is, start the fight by using my Crimson Rite and then transform into a Werewolf, attack with each claw, then spend a ki point and flurry of blows for 2 more attacks.
Excellent, but i'd say push blood hunter to level 5 first so you don't delay the multi attack feature. I think using the blood rite only reduces the max hp reduction once to be applied on both hands (it's not two weapons). Though keep in mind that the this class is very action dependent, so whenever you feel a fight is about to start try to transform before the fight and if possible apply the rite too so you wail at people on first turn releasing the true horror of a werewolf making your foes regret the day they decided to attack you and your party.
It synergies very well but late levels you'll miss out on very good features such as having three transformation three times and an AoE fear and max damage when you are at 1/4 hp. Though i think it might be a decent trade off. Be warred though, losing control because of damage might put you in a bad situation as you might attack your own allies, so it's best that you don't tank yourself. last thing, i don't recommend you put a lot of points in monk as blood hunter's abilities are way too important. so 3 levels max in monk is the best thing to do but it's up to you.

Yeah, I've been spit-balling a lot on this guy. The way I was framing my backstory, was my character could tell that he was losing control when he was in werewolf form, so he sought out the wisdom of the monks to help him control his rage (interestingly enough monks rely on dex and wisdom, the saving throw for Bloodlust, is wisdom). So, it fits not only in a numbers crunch sort of way, but also from a character backstory stand point.
Early on I was weighing if getting Way of the Open Hand would be worth it. I mean, attacking the amount of times I will be and being able to knock people prone or knock them back is pretty powerful.
Ultimately, I agree though. The bonuses to the transformation ability are just too powerful and necessary to miss out on.
Thank you for the feedback though, I appreciate it!
Blood Hunter lycan Honey Badger / Mook er Monk way of the long death.
Monk 7th level for no fear. Or less I kinda like a dip 2 levels of rogue, for increase senses for Perception. *shrugs* built in disengage/ dash without wasting Ki
Blood hunter just get out there & bam it's a working lunch or Dinner?
Dworf might not allow for eating your prey.. Dangit!!!
I thought of that.. Wouldn't a shifter have less chance of losing control due to the Tribe training to be one with your beast side? Plus.. Cause they already have the gene's they couldnt Er.. Shouldn't be effected by blood magic that corrupts the blood even farther??
Great Idea though.. The shifter could have a throw-back gene that he.. Geeze They work at becoming Lycan Blood Hunters?
I prefer pure blood hunter rather than mixing it. I haven't gotten to play a blood hunter full through but they feel like another of a handful of things that work best as a pure class (along with druids and Barbarians usually do).
With predatory strikes they are slightly slow but actually start out stronger and make martial arts basically un-needed. Predatory strikes actually mimics martial arts in several of the ways it works already including the fact that it allows for a bonus action attack after the regular attack and the increasing attack die except that it doesn't scale as many times and it maxes out at level 18 instead of level 17. It also starts slightly higher at a d6 instead of a d4. Improved Predatory Strikes to make their attacks automatically magical is also one level later than a monk but already exists in the Lycan order.
flurry of blows if your going to basically go mostly Blood Hunter anyway doesn't actually give you much of anything with only two ki points either. It would only add 1 extra hit to a couple extra rounds. Blood hunters already can hit twice at level 3 and 4 and hit 3 times at level 5 or higher just like a monk.
Blood hunters and Order of Lycan both bring a bunch of nice little tricks and combat advantages to the table as well the higher level it gets. I've had a bit of fun testing one a bit at low level but would love to be able to committedly play one through the tier 4 levels. But they get things like increased attack bonus (up to +3), advantage for having an ally nearby at a higher level. their blood maledictions, and their Blood Rite (that also increases in damage).
My only real problem with Blood Hunters is that their Fighting Style Feature doesn't really mix with Order of the Lycan when they are transformed. None of them actually mix with the unarmed style that Lycan's are well suited for and none of the defensive ones are available to the Class. Though they are at least still useful if your forced into a position where you have to fight when you don't have any transformations available so that may just be a bit of a personal gripe that I have.
It's never going to get a reboot from Matt. Some tweaks perhaps but he won't recreate it. My one little gripe with Order of the Lycan is likely never to change either. Since in a way they get powers to make up for it. So I just have to learn to accept that Fighting Styles only matter when not using the shape changed affect of Order of the Lycan. But I can live with that since they do have several forms of augmented combat.
MY name is bucky i have the determination of a tiger trying to get his prey, i have the agility of a cheetah, and the charisma of a fox which is my favorite species of any animal. i care for my friends so much that i cant take care of my self but i still get trough it no matter what. i love sea food. im a fox and D&D fanatics, so don't mind me if i say random fox facts. D&D is my passion and i would love more relationship, that would make me so happy.
Hay guys is monk/rogue good or monk/blood hunter good? or maybe a blood hunter rogue?
Monk in general is very stat reliant so every level you multiclass you delay your die damage increase.
Multiclassing into Blood hunter (imo) doesn't offer much but having another class multiclassed to it is probably better. So yea few levels of rogue gives you nice extra damage because of sneak attack as well as cunning action which can help in positioning.

What do you guys think? Does it synergize?

So just 2 level rogue & 18 levels into monk. Drop the blood hunter lycan till it gets a Matt Mercer reboot
As a separate class to focus on claws and fangs..
