I like the shadow monk feel. Levels 1-6. Seems very Ninja like and flavorful. After 6th I’m thinking of a dip but not sure what. Fighter for action surge, Ranger gloom stalker might fit or is the a pure caster y’all recommend.
I worry that going mono won’t give my party enough dps.
So what do you all like about Monks? What do you feel their strengths are for a party and what dips might you recommend?
A 1 level Fighter dip is not a bad idea for the Blind Fighting fighting style. Pairs up nicely with the Shadow Monks ability to the Darkness spell. Although this may piss off the rest of the table unless your group has others that can see in magical darkness.

Thank you. Would it be worth the 2nd lvl dip for Action Surge? If I understand it correctly my two attacks for that round would be 4 plus I'd still have my one bonus action and one reaction?
Normally a 2 level dip of Fighter for Action Surge is generally a good idea. But I am of two minds about it with the Monk. There are a couple of reasons for this. Monks really want to hit their ASI increases asap because maxing their DEX and WIS generally mean good things for a Monk: +hit, damage, AC for DEX and +AC and spell DC for WIS. Also multi level dips reduce your Ki pool which is not big a problem at higher levels but at lower levels your Ki pool might not be big enough to spam stuff like Flurry of Blows or Stunning Strikes.
If I were to MC on a monk I would probably go Ranger, who also needs DEX and WIS. It’s a bigger investment (3rd level to get your subclass compared to fighter’s two levels for Action Surge) but it could be worth it depending on what you want out of it. Dread Ambusher and the dueling fighting style will bump up your damage and you might find some spells to help as well. You will lose out on Ki points and delay Evasion but it could be fun. If you are not playing at an optimized table, I would say go for it and have fun.

War cleric pairs well with monk. Divine favor and shield of faith are good domain spells and War Priest bonus action weapon attack can be used with a bow to give decent ranged option. Do whatever fits the vision of your character though.

Thanks.
Hadn't thought about that. TY.
