I'm playing in 5e/2014. The DM has worked with me to let my Kensei monk use a meteor hammer, and he was asking me how I wanted to flavor that. Eventually, I'm going to multiclass into fighter.
I noticed that Deft Strike has similarities to a superiority die for some of the maneuvers, so I was going to suggest that with the meteor hammer as a kensei weapon, that deft strike can be used to fuel certain maneuvers like push, trip, distract; if those maneuvers are known.
I think it's a fun synergy between the classes, and I think it's balanced because it just uses another limited resource.
At a glance, it doesn't look very balanced. Battle masters have to make do with only a few superiority dice, whereas monks have 6 focus that recharge on a short rest and can be regained when rolling initiative one time in a day.
ps: can you share the rules for this "meteor hammer"? I looked in homebrew and there are7 pages of magic items with that name.
Thanks for the feedback. This is 2014 rules, so ki points recharge only on a short rest, which is the same for superiority dice.
We're still discussing the details of the meteor hammer description. As you noted, there are a lot of them. We're starting from a reskinned flail, and the current suggestions are to make it versatile and use a bonus action to give it reach on the next attack. I've also seen adding a grappling option where you forego the damage and have the target make a dexterity saving throw. That began to look very much like a maneuver, which led me to wonder about whether you could pool the resources with a kensei/battle master build. If you use the ki point, it can't be used for stunning strike or flurry of blows, etc. The superiority die is greater, so you would only use the deft strike option if you ran out of superiority, and odds are that you are probably low on ki as well, so this feels flavorful, but unlikely to be a major combat win. I was also considering only a subset of maneuvers.
This is meant to be the signature weapon for my character, so the DM was looking for input on what I was looking for.

You’d be more than doubling your pool of dice for maneuvers, which seems like a significant shift to the balance of the feature.

It seems like you are already getting a powerful magic item. Don't get greedy.
