So I was looking through the Way of the Long Death feature list and came to Hour of Reaping, which states; which
"At 6th level, you gain the ability to unsettle or terrify those around you as an action, for your soul has been touched by the shadow of death. When you take this action, each creature within 30 feet of you that can see you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until the end of your next turn."
Which gives the impression that it targets party members as well as enemies. Is this correct? It seems something like this could potentially undermine an encounter with poor rolling.
That's what my assumption was. It seems a difficult feat to pull off considering being in melee near a defender, but I suppose the ability to frighten that many creatures for an action a turn (giving advantage and all that) should have a downside.
You can ask the Dm for it to not affect your allies. if he doesn't agree try to RP that you are trying to not look at your allies.

Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"
Monks should move around a lot in combat. You should be able to move 30’ away from your aallies, use that ability, and then move some more. It’s a little bit risky because you’ll be alone for a little bit, but you should be able to move away from any opponents that make their save since you’ll still have a fair amount of movement left after doing this.

That would be correct. When it doesn't affect certain creatures it specifies with "that you choose" or "allied creatures" or "hostile creatures".
Like with other AOE effects, you would be trying to perform the ability in an area that wouldn't contain allied creatures.

That would make sense, honestly it works amazing in a room of magical darkness because your allies don't see you without certain parameters.
