I'm thinking of rolling a monk for an upcoming game and I've always wanted to try 4 elements. I know they are subpar in the PHB and I've seen various reworkings done online. The one everyone seems to point to is way of the four elements reborn, which seems good upon reading but i'm really curious to hear what people that have actually used it at the table have to say. Does it make the subclass on par with the other ones? Is it worth bringing to my DM? I'm not too worried about having the most charop murder hobo at the table but I would like to be balanced with the rest of the party. Thanks!
I just finished my first session playing my Wot4E Monk. We started at lvl3. My DM wasn't open to using the rework as she is a new DM, but looked at the subclass, ki cost, and ki points/lvl and decided that it needed something. Luckily she's the type of person that likes to reward RP and backstory effort, so she gave me a ki buff based on my backstory with my weapon.
It's a quarterstaff that my character just learned used to be a legendary trident, so she said that it give me resistance to lightning and double's my ki points as long as I am attuned to it. It might get op quick so she'll probably rework it as I level up to keep the ki point balance, but for our first session, it worked REALLY well. I didn't hesitate to use my abilities and used them often.
I haven't played the rework, but definitely bring it to your DM. Even if they say no, they'll know that you looked into your character and are aware of the possible balancing things and could reconsider later.

I would have made it a set + 3 to ki bonus
When you go up a level, you should be getting new and better weapons, not having the weapon scale with you.
