I used to read the manga, watch the show, and play with the cards. I haven't ever played the video game, but I still know a good deal about it.
I would think that a pokemon campaign would start with the characters with a starter pokemon and you let them explore. Set up sidequests and cool places to explore with pokemon and their trainers to meet. The characters should be trying to go to the different gyms, and maybe they need to beat the gym leader to level up.
There might be an overarching plot where Team Rocket or an evil band of trainers are trying to catch a legendary pokemon and the characters have to stop them.
If you had an idea for a Pokemon DND campaign....what would it be about??
Would it be just a basic adventure where players build their rosters and climb up the ranks?
Would it be a group of trainers competing to take the new gym leader slot?
Plz share your ideas! I'd love to hear them.
I think it could be made more adventurous than that. Something more like Arceus legends where you have a lot of mystery and intrigue, new god pokemon and a bunch of small events that lead to a big disaster (defeating the team in the beginning small heist accidentally lets out a mew-two equivalent pokemon that starts causing problems?) idk I would take heavy inspiration from Detective Pikachu bc that was a good movie and made pokemon feel immersive in the world
Alternatively, you coukd have the players figure out about illegal pokemon trades, pokemon slaughterhouses for food, etc :) like basic world problems that need to be fixed

I love making Pokemon races, and allowing my players to be Pokemon. Sorta a precursor to PLA. Before Pokeballs, when humans feared Pokemon. A Pokemons world

For my campaign's Bard/Druid (I'm DM) He found a forgotten flute in his backpack and it turned out to be a celestica flute, allowing him to call pokemon like Basculegion and Ursaluna in some situations. He's a big PL:A fan and I just wanted to give him that for some fun. :)
I thought about doing this once. I would definitely go for a mystery dungeon style campaign, where humans just don't exist and it's just the pokemon. For leveling, maybe like the current 20 level system, each 1 dnd level being equal to 5 pokemon levels. Then you could base the stats off of that, too, and even the moves. I would assume max ivs and no evs, as well as the player picking their pokemon's nature and ability. Just using the normal 4-move setup would probably be the best, with moves gained at the level they would normally be gained at for that pokemon. A possibility of finding tms and that stuff in the wild might make it more fun for the players, but no potions or revives or anything like that, just berries and stuff. Have the players pick the pokemon they want to use, the rules being no legendaries or mythicals, and only first-stage pokemon. Use your best judgement for this. I have absolutely no ideas for plot, but involving a legendary, mythical, or ultra beast probably makes sense.

Pokemon Master, Hero of Hyrule, Jedi Knight, Minecrafter, Celestial Being Beyond Comprehension, Bounty Hunter, Salmon Runner, Nailmaster, Yarn Yoshi Enjoyer, Animal Lover, Math Rock Roller, Nerd King in all Aspects.
(And, of course, Dragon Tamer. It is in the name, after all)
I was thinking about two TTRPGs, Animon and Monster Wrangler.
Are you thinking about a D&D campaign with any "mon" elements or a Pokemon TTRPG?
It may be very boring if the only antagonist group is the Team Rocket (and always with the same "mons"). A DM could feel blocked and without inspiration to create new and original adventures if always it is doing the same things time after time: catching, collecting and fighting.
I’d probably set it up to act more like Legends Arceus where you travel around and collect a team of Pokémon to traverse the region that has been afflicted by a strange phenomena where make Pokémon become larger, more powerful, and enraged. Instead of playing typical dnd character, your “stats” are determined by the Pokémon you catch and you especially play as them in combat while playing as the trainer outside of come at.

Low level: catching their starter and working their way through each gym, leveling up whenever they beat one.
High level: Preventing team rocket from catching a legendary or mythical.
