I always go for the simplest nobodies for my characters. Anyone can be a hero, not just heroes.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
That's not a meme, that's a very real problem in many D&D parties. Players get punished for not playing a race with darkvision. Sure, they can carry a torch around or use a light spell, but that will make the rogue with the Skulker feat very unhappy. Either way, the range of the torch, lantern, or light spell won't be far enough to allow a wizard to stay far away, or an archer to make use of their long range.
As a rogue, having to carry a light source into dark areas makes you unable to take advantage of the darkness. To creatures without darkvision, you are essentially invisible, and can hide with no problem. Even if creatures have darkvision, you could use the Skulker feat, because you would techincally be lightly obscured to the enemy. Also, carrying a light source just gives away your position, which isn't what you want when you're trying to be sneaky. The problem's more severe with Gloom Stalker ranger and Shadow Monks, as both classes depend on darkness to make use of their best features. I guess Shadow Monks and Shadow Sorcerers can create magical darkness, but shadow monks can't even see through their darkness.
Standard human is just a crappy race. It doesn't get anything special, just a +1 bonus to EVERY ability score. Take the Variant Human feat instead, if you DM allows it. The Standard Human is just too vanilla and boring.
Oops, forgot I already posted on this subject, XD.
Sometimes, when I'm making a character, I have to reroll because the rolls were just to bad to actually use.

I don't like rp-heavy games, I LOVE them.
Hi, I am not a chest. I deny with 100% certainty that I am a chest. I can neither confirm nor deny what I am beyond that.
I used to portray Krathian, Q'ilbrith, Jim, Tara, Turin, Nathan, Tench, Finn, Alvin, and other characters in various taverns.
I also do homebrew, check out my Spells and Magic Items

New D&D Player: Okay, you're playing a cleric, so I guess the healing role is fulfilled.

The OoTS wizard wouldn't mind, because he could copy all the contents of his spellbook into a blank book in just a few hours.

This is a recurring issue that plagues many D&D parties. It should be either all characters have darkvision, or all don't.

Because the OoTS wizard treats their book as a beloved pet. Not just an object, a sentinent creature that can talk.
