Yes. Some people may argue with this, but the text of the spell's trigger says "after hitting a target with a melee weapon or an unarmed strike". It doesn't say "melee attack" like the old version did. Throwing a spear at someone is still hitting them with a melee weapon, even though it's a ranged attack.
Add on to this that thrown weapons now work properly with Extra Attack and it makes them more usable now, while I think Glory is the weakest 2024 Subclass, the imagery of an Oath of Glory paladin tossing a Javelin and then activating Divine Smite to use Inspiring Smite is something I think at least has a certain "coolness" factor to it, more so if role played correctly.

How come the 2024 divine smite doesn't work for range weapons like arrows or bullets?
Divine smite has never worked for ranged weapons.
They playtested it, and got a very negative response, so stuck with the classic melee only.
If you're really excited about ranged smites, it does work with thrown attacks with melee weapons. Keep those javelins handy.
