Yo, this be your boy and DM Moonknight, here to bring you a Starters Kit Mines of Phandelver Campaign. Let’s start things off with a brief intro to me. I’ve DM’d for about a year IRL, and played a few post by posts on here, and wanted to try my hand off with something nice and simple. So here’s what I thought we’d do:
Rules and Explanations and stuff:
Daily posting. I want to finish this campaign hopefully by end of Summer, and if you suspect you can’t pull off at least a post a day, this might not be the place for you.
Standard Mines of Phan campaign and rules. I have a physical copy and will mostly be going off of that. I’ll probably change things up at points to keep things fresh, but the Skelton will be mostly the same.
Levels 1-5 or whatever
Homebrew Races are okay, mayyyybeee home brew classes if you show me something cool and make a good case for it, but let’s try to stick to official content.
4-5 Applicants will be accepted. If you have content sharing, please say so, you will admittably have preferential treatment for application, because I don’t have content sharing.
Be cool, have fun! Some ribbing/bullying in character is okay, but try to be socially acceptable with it, and absolutely no bullying outside of character.
So so here’s what I want to here in your applications: A little about yourself, and your history with D&D. Then stuff about your character: start with race, class, gender. Then move to stuff like what you plan personality on being like, a little background, etc.
We will be using either point buy or standerd array. That’s about it for now, can’t wait to see what I get!
I’ve been playing tabletop games for about 7 years, starting with 4th Edition, way back when. I’ve been playing 5th since its release. I’m a father, and a software engineer in my mid twenties. I’ve never participated in a Play by Post game, but I’m at my computer all day for work, and I don’t expect a daily posting to be difficult.
My character:
Race: Dragonborn
Class: Druid
Gender: Male
I don’t have a specific character rolled up yet, but that’s the easy part. I’ve always thought that a Dragonborn Druid would be a fun combination, but I’m flexible, and could play anything that works with the story. I’m imagining that the character would be a little bumbley, too big for his skin, always bouncing into things, getting stuck in spaces he thought he might be able to fit through. He’s kind hearted, and quickly loyal, but fierce at the idea of treachery or betrayal. Classic druid stuff, always carful not to step on plants, talks to flowers, that kind of thing. I like the juxtaposition of a towering dragon man that likes leaves.
For backstory, I think something like being raised by the local woods witch from hatching could be a neat idea. Lots of communing with nature, and learning healing / gardening, but still rooted near a local village or town, so he’s not an unsocialized. After she died, he packed up and set out to help people, and fell in with an adventuring group after becoming friends with one of the members.
Like I mentioned above, I’m not tied to any given character or backstory, and I’d be more than happy to flex with the group. I don’t currently have a Master subscription, though I’m not opposed to picking one up. I have the PHB, DMG, and MM unlocked. I also have a few monsters from Volo’s, and could pick up the rest of the book as well.
Edit: I can also flesh this character out a lot more for this post if that’s something you’d want. Like I said, I’ve never done one of these before, so I’m not 100% on the protocol.
Sounds great so far. You don't have to buy the masters license for this campaign, especially since you were the first one to respond, but if you happen to buy it for other reasons it would be great to share with the campaign.
Like I said, this is first level Mines Of Phandelver stuff, so backstories are appreciated, but you don't have to make it terribly complicated. Build the character whenever you have the time, more details will come, especially when we get more applications.
I'm in my mid 20's. I manage a local gym. I have been interested in playing D&D for about 6 months and have played a few one shots and really want to get into more depth. I am usually close to a computer most days, so I should be able to post at least once a day on my days off but definitely more while I'm at work (spending time with my fiance on my few ddays off is important to me.)
My character:
Race: Half-Orc
Gender: Male
Class: Monk
I was thinking of the character being left on the stoop of some monastery, and when came of age left his temple because he wanted to see the world. Not abandoning his teachings but sent away as almost a missionary. More details can be fleshed out
Unfortunately I don't own any content on D&D Beyond. But I have physical copies of the 3 base books, volos and xanathars.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Mavi Göz Mal - Half Orc Monk Level 1 Not Another Lost Mine of Phandelver
Drita - Aasimar Hexblade Warlock Lvl 3 Tomb of Annhilation
I'm a relatively new player, but I've been reading the various rule books and building characters in between panning the LFG and PbP forums like a miner looking for gold. I'm in a couple of PbP campaigns, but only one that has actually started. I've gotten into Roll 20 through another campaign and play around on that to do mock battles with my characters and other newb junkies looking for a fix. I'm older than a lot of the people I've met on here, but not so old that I can't appreciate the good beat in a shitty 21 Savage song.
My Character:
Korbinian Darkfire - Human (Variant) - Rogue
The first thing anyone should know about Korbinian "Kor" Darkfire is that everything you know about him is a lie. Unfortunately, for some, Kor is a very good lier, so many people don't discover the "truth" about him until he, and their money, are already long gone. Kor's true name is...
I don't want to put more about him on this forums in case he gets picked up for this and other potential party members see it. Let me know if you want the full story and I'll PM. To sum him up though, I see him playing the part of the schemer and the face man for the party. He'll be useful in combat, but it's out of combat where I expect him to shine (making money, getting into places he shouldn't, info gathering, finding non-violent solutions to problems, etc.).
Since I'm new, all my content is 5E and from DnD Beyond, though I have some familiarity with Roll 20 messing around on it. The few campaigns I'm actively in right now are all short home-brews, so I'm really looking for something that will go a while to get some chances to do some good RP and have my character develop. I prefer PbP as usually the RP is a lot better when we take the time to write it, but I'm up for anything.
hate talking bout myself but will answer any questions :)
history i started playing with Greyhawk, then 1st edition AD&D (yes im old) played a couple 1 shots with 3e but its been pretty sporadic over the years.
I have been DMing IRL for about 20 years now, and just got into PBP. I am running some IRL and PBP as we speak as well, but I have not gotten the chance to play in a PBP, so I would love to play in yours. I work in computers sitting at a desk all day, so I am available for regular postings. I am in EST and love RPGs as my favorite past time. I like to make characters that don't necessarily fit perfectly into the class to make it more fun.
I was hoping to be a Monk or a rogue myself, but since both of those are taken, how about an Air Genasi Barbarian, ready to channel his rage into crushing the growing insurgence of followers of Yan-C-Bin (Elemental Evil RPG) as Kent Stormborn is a follower of Akadi, Air Primordial god of the plane of air.
Kent is a light, and easy going person, quick with a joke and a laugh. He tries to emulate the wind as much as he can. Jokes and insults blow over him like a light breeze, but endanger the things he cares about and he is a hurricane. Even while raging, he is laughing, but it takes on a certain madness to it that strikes fear into his opponents. Some say he is slightly unhinged, but had you lived his life, with most of his people being wiped out during a rift between primordial planes and the material, you would be mad as well.
(OOC: Are we rolling for stats, is it standard, or 27 point buy? Please let me know. I will whip up a character if you approve. Please note if you don't mind 2 rogues or 2 monks, I would love to do that as well. If you need a Bard, I have one of those as well.)
Okay thank you applicants! I’ll PM you guys later, Campaign should start tonight!
Either point buy or standerd array for stats please. Unfortunately I’ve participated in campaigns where characters sharing classes have lead to bad situations, and would prefer to have diversity.
Use starting equipment, and give yourself about 5-15 gold depending on your backgrounds. I’ll set up a group PM thread later
Since you have a fighter added, but there is only 1 spell caster, I can be a bard to be a backup healer. I am going to keep the general concept of my character the same, being an Air Genasi with worship to Akadi. I think it will be better all around if I am a spell caster so we have that diversity.
In the bustling port city of Neverwinter, a dwarf named Gundren Rockseeker has hired you to escort a wagon load of provisions and other important supplies to the rough-and-tumble settlement of Phandelver, a couple day's southeast of the city. Gundren was clearly excited during the hiring process, and let slip about finding "something big" alongside his brothers.
You are to escort the wagon to a shop called 'Barthen's Provisions', the settlement's trading post in return for 10 Gold Pieces each, and the promise of more work in the future. He left for Phandelver himself immediately after showing you guys the wagon, leaving on horse with his body guard, an middle aged human male named Sildar Hallwinter.
You've spent the last few days traveling at a relatively fast pace south along the government maintained high roads, but now your party must veer East, and leave the safety of the highroads in exchange for a well traveled, dusty dirt path named the 'Triboar Trail'. This is where the territory can grow dangerous for travelers, the Northern Wilderness is famous for it's many outlaws and bandits.
I will write the first scenario of your adventure later today, for now socialize! Role play your characters a bit, talk about the reason why you find yourself here, how you found yourself taking the job. Did you know Gundren the dwarf beforehand, or are you a literal random that stumbled into the hiring process? Ask others about themselves, their actions, etc. and feel free to make random ability checks about anything you want.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kent sits on the wagon bed on top of the supplies, facing backwards to keep an eye on the road behind them. His soft voice carries a tune of jovial whimsy while he strums his Lute.
“Travelling the road, last known is where I want to be
My compass directing, electing, an open road with golden trees
But there's an old man in need on the ground, I try not to make a sound
He holds out his hand as I walk away, I hear him say
Please don't be a stranger in my place
Travelling come to a tavern for a momentary rest
I see the old man that I passed on the road in his distress
As I turned to go I can hear him say, "Son, stay. Have a drink, I'll pay."
Let bygones be gone, it's all in the past, we raise a glass
Please don't be a stranger in my place
What if I could be what you wanted me to be
What if I could see what you wanted me to see
Come on and show me
Please don't be a stranger in my place”
23 Performance Check
He clears his throat and takes a drink of water, and then lays back on the cart looking at the clouds.
“The Lute is not a wind instrument. I prefer to sing, tell stories, or play the flute, but I need the practice you see. Not all Bards are created equal, and my talents with the string are not as refined… Aren't you all just so jealous of the clouds! Look at them… so free…”
The sudden change of subject from music to clouds is almost in the same breath, as if a small gust of wind came along from nowhere to redirect his speech.
Mav sits along the south side of the cart gazing to the north thinking about his home.
5 perception check (should have +2 as well, still getting used to this)
“It was always cloudy at home in the mountains. We were so high up, we were basically living in the clouds. It’s so refreshing to see forests and valleys and great big lakes. Meeting new people is always interesting as well! My name is Mavi but you can call me Mav.”
Mavi removes his hood and you are greeted with a large half orc smile and piercing ice blue eyes sunken into lake water like flesh.
Mav sits along the south side of the cart gazing to the north thinking about his home.
5 perception check (should have +2 as well, still getting used to this)
Put your spoiler here.
Thats a okay- that’s why I’m including this bit of roleplay, so you can get a feel of the website without messing up an important ability check or something.
Also for everyone-please color code your characters dialogue, it helps with readability and looks nice. Also try to pick a color that others arnt using, I will use unused colors for NPC
“This is what it would look like.” If you are on your phone, there’s a thing on the pull down bar called desktop mode, which gives you access to dice rolling and text color, etc. I’m on mobile right now actually.
Valathar sits at the front of the card, guiding the horses as they trot down the road.
“What a lovely song. The clouds are nice, but it’s the birds that soar through the clouds that are truly free! They can go wherever their wings carry them. Just beautiful.” Valathar rumbles. “And it’s a pleasure to meet you Mav. I have to say, it’s nice to meet someone my size. I’m not used to speaking with someone without looking down!”
Valathar chuckles, the sound like rocks clacking together.
“Does anyone know how much longer until we hit the forest? I can’t wait to be back within the trees.”
Were we provided a map by Gundren, or is the path well known enough that we wouldn't need one?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The man sitting upfront, next to Valathar, applauds as the air Gensai finishes his song turning around and saying, "Great song, you've got a good voice as well. The lute is a nice piece of work as well. Knew a guy once, had one like it, but the detailing on yours is much better," The man leans forward to appearing to getting a closer look and as he does the reason becomes apparent as the eye patch he is wearing becomes visible.
"I don't know about clouds, friend, but freedom is nice and free is better." Switching his gaze to the half-orc, he returns the smile, "I'm Korbinian, folks call me Kor."
Turning back around Kor mentally goes over what he saw of the supplies while ostensibly checking out the bard's lute. If Rockseer was really onto "something big" as he'd heard, Kor needed to figure out what it was and how he could profit from it. He would start by figuring what exactly this wagon was carrying and what kind of operation it was supposed to be supplying.
"Us musical folk like to take care of our instruments. The detailing on mine represents the finest of the Air goddess's. Akadi never gets the credit she deserves you see..." Kent says and he strokes his lutes scrolling lovingly. "Akadi is an Air Primordial you see... She was around before the Gods that many serve now. Before there was a Prime material plane. But because she is not a GOD..."Kent says while bring hands up to do the air quotes around god, and rolls his eyes, "People don't give her credit. We would have have air to breath, clouds in the sky, or anything else that relies on the wind if she did not grant some of the Plane of Airs power to this world."
Kent suddenly stands up on box he was leaning on. He does it so fast, it is almost as if he was alarmed! In fact... he is. "What kind of bard am I if I do not introduce myself properly. I am ashamed! I am Kent Stormborn, Air Genasi, and servant of Akadi."Kent does a deep bow to Kor. "Pleased to make your acquaintance."
The wagon you are protecting contains the standard packages of rations and water canteens, convinces for the towns folk like soap, wax, and other necessitates and non-expensive luxuries.
But upon further inspection, there are crates in the back, concealed from view by all the other supplies, marked with warning labels like 'FRAGILE, VOLATILE MATERIALS INSIDE' and 'FRAGILE, HEAVY DEVICES, TWO MAN CARRY JOB'
(Here's the map your employer gave you, please let me know if I need to resize it. First scenario will begin in about an hour IRL)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"A pleasure to meet you as well Kent. Play more, will you? Your songs have a pleasant tune, and they remind me of home.”
Valathar turns back to the horses, inspecting the map. “Hmm, I’d like to make better time. We’ve slowed down since turning East. If we could arrive in Phandelver before the end of day tomorrow, I think that would be best. I grew up just north of here, in Thundertree, and I'd rather not spend more nights out in the open than we have to.”
Valathar urges the horses on. 9 Animal Handling with the hopes to make better time before sundown.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kent pulls out his Ocarina like flute (Looks like a gourd or America football with a mouthpiece at the side... Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of time. My daughter IRL has one and is learning to play it lol) and begins playing again. With his unique heritage, he is able to continue to blow through the flute continuously, almost magically because of his lack or requirements to breath.
The tunes are melodic and cheerful, and invokes feelings of freedom and happiness.6
