Hi folks! I am looking for five adventurers to join me in a game based on the 3.5 Eberron adventure Eyes of the Lich Queen.
This module contains a pulp adventure romp across the world of Eberron. Think of this as an Indiana Jones-style globetrotting adventure. The PCs will begin this adventure by negotiating with a researcher about a contract for a simple job. This will lead them to search for ancient artifacts in the jungles of Q’barra, perform daring heists and negotiations in the islands of the Lhazaar Principalities, and even travel to the mysterious draconic homeland of Argonessen, all while racing against the villainous Order of the Emerald Claw!
This adventure will have PCs start at level 5 and will run to level 10. The starting area will be the city of Adderport in Q’barra, but your character can be from anywhere in Eberron and have made their way here as a career adventurer.
We will be using Owlbear Rodeo for maps.
Any official published material is approved for use in character creation. Tasha’s optional features and multiclassing are approved. Eberron material is encouraged! Characters that are rooted in Eberron will get special consideration, but everyone will get a fair shot. "Rooted in Eberron" in this case means that you've worked in specific elements from the world into your character's backstory. If you take the soldier background, what nation did you fight for in the Last War? If you take the acolyte background, which religion do you serve? If you take the criminal or spy background, which shady faction did/do you serve? Keep those sorts of things in mind as you craft your character. Show off your Eberron knowledge if you have it. And if you do not have it, that's okay! Look through Wayfinder's Guide and Rising from the Last War and do your best! If you don’t have access to the books and want to reference them for your character creation, please click THIS link to join a temporary campaign where you’ll get my content sharing. Once recruitment is done, I will delete this campaign. Had to close the campaign because trolls keep making characters with hateful language and inappropriate images. This is why we can't have nice things. If you need access to Eberron content to create your character, let me know.
If you are interested, please fill out the following template for your character:

Backstory: (Keep this brief - no more than two paragraphs. Please put it in a spoiler!)
I’ll close recruitment on Saturday, March 25th or once I have 5 candidates in mind. Thank you all in advance!
Edit: Hey folks, great to see the applications so far. Thank you for your interest! To answer a few questions, use any placeholder for starting stats - we’ll generate the official ones once I pick my final crew. Similarly, just take starting equipment for now. We’ll sort out starting coin and magic items once the final crew is picked. For now, I just want to see character concepts.
Finally, a bit of a qualifier that I didn’t mention before: this module features a lot of combat and a bit of intrigue as well! So if you’re into combat-light games, this may not be the one for you.
Thanks again folks, looking forward to seeing more applications!
For now do standard array or point buy, once I get the final group together we’ll probably generate stats a different way. I mostly want to see character concepts first.
Service is one of the older Warforged still operational and unlike most Warforged Service wasn’t built to fight, but to serve. In particular Service was custom built for the great Ashrem d'Cannith to entertain, serve and look after the guests on Ashrem’s airships. Service isn’t sure what it’s original designation was but they have answered calls for service for so long that it has become their name, although there are some faded letters with 2X4B on their shoulder.
Service helped on Airships for many years and is rightly proud of their skills and all the grand families they have served from House Medani on trips to Breland to House Phiarlan in Thrane.
Service entertained guests, helped them when they were ill, diffused arguments and learned a lot about the history of Eberron along the way.
This all changed when the airship Service was onboard, The Nova, crashed in the Q’Barran Jungle. Service was the only survivor and spent 17 years waiting for rescue. Now back in a society they don’t really understand, with no clear role or goal in life, other than to serve. Service is looking for new meaning and people to help.
Happy to create a joint back story if someone wants to have rescued Service from the Q’Barran Jungle.
Sigurd first memories are the fire and screaming around him as a child as creatures from the darkness raided his village. He remembers the time of hunger and pain as he struggled to survive as a homely, refugee child in a strange land. He has grown into an ugly man who stays the shadows, watching... he lives for hunting the hunters of the weak... relishing in destroying those who cause suffering in others. He has journeyed to Storm Reach and is thinking of visiting the fabulous Flying Towers of Sharn. In the meantime he is looking for a group to travel with.
Erbert, a Zil gnome, has been studying for what seems to be thousands of years (to him) under his maester, Gilo Greentag, and itching to get out from under his thumb. He grew up in the city of Korranberg in Zilargo, an apprentice under a very unforgiving maester. He started on his path by being assigned by his clan to clean up Gilo's office and library when he was a young lad. He started to thumb through the books late at night, taking way too long to clean up and was scolded many times, accused of being lazy and slow. But nothing could stop his thirst for knowledge. He would spend hours at the Library of Korranberg, walking up and down the aisles, sniffing and studying the dusty books. Now as a young man of 55 he wants to enter the world and find his fortune. And the measure of that fortune is knowledge. He has a knack for maps and mapmaking, he loves to make drawings in his journal, explore new areas - and document them. He has lived his life on the edge of the forest and knows the area like the back of his hand. He goes for a jaunt in the woods whenever he can, learning the new beginning spells from his maester's tomes, but he dreams of crossing the desert, of going on a grand quest to the east and far away lands, such as Q’barra. He hopes to search lost jungles for forbidden treasures, and then come home to publish his writings about it. He has a contact inside the Korranberg Chronicle that could publish writings for him. At his last meeting at a bar with Lonadar, he cautiously mentioned the Trust and how they would be interested in Erbert’s skills and findings in Q’barra, and how they could perhaps provide assistance along the way.
He has developed a skill in mastery of the elements, he is somewhat of a firebug, some would say a pyromaniac. Three weeks ago now Gilo walked into his library, and swatted at a pile of rags that he thought was Erbert, "Are you here still? Did you stay here overnight cleaning up you lazy git! What am I going to do with you?" The pile of rags fluttered down and twinkled, landing in an empty bucket, and at the bottom he found a note written in hurried script. "I'm out of here, thank you for what you have taught me, toodle-oo!" Gilo laughed and pocketed the note, saying to himself "Take care and stay safe you little shit. Hope you fare better out there than you did here."
Halbrand hails from the hidden Venomous Demesne and a descendant of Sorlonan mages of Ohr Kaluun. Layers of spells keep the city hidden in the far corner of Droaam. Halbrand is a lesser heir to one of the four lines of ruling nobility. learning the ways of magic was expected, but her fascination with the world beyond the walls of the hidden city drew her family's ire. She would purchase any books or scrap of lore on the world beyond the hidden city. Now she knows the people outside are less advanced, but something about them ignited her passion for exploration. Reading about far off lands and sipping blood wine was the height of pleasure for her. So she made her plans to break out and she almost made it before she was caught. Seeing a life locked inside a gilded cage was too much. She invoked the rite of duels. Her spells vs the warlock enforcer. In end she won, but was stripped of her family title. Now she ventures to the untamed lands of Q'Barra.
Backstory: Beadle’s parents were shifters of rodent descent who ran a well respected alchemy business in Thaliost which was was destroyed during the war by Thrane zealots who murdered them for their tainted blood. Beadle escaped at a young age and grew up in the streets, befriending pests and criminals and the destitute. He became connected to the forces of growth and decay and left Thrane behind to make his way in the world.
Another question : Will we be starting with 500-750 gp for starting 5th to buy additional equipment beyond starting set? Any uncommon magic items (High Magic Game)?
Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Just some rando forum troll taking advantage of the open campaign link. I deleted the character entry that had the slurs. I’d report the person who did this, but they unassigned the character to avoid getting their name attached to it. I apologize for any offense or confusion that caused. I guess that’s what I get for opening up a private link for public access. *sigh*
I’ll keep the link open if people need it to access Eberron content for character creation, but if this happens again I’ll probably just close it.
Thanks for the clarification. Some people are just asshats.
I'm reading up on the setting now. I'm thinking of making an Artificer, because, well... when in Eberron, do as the Eberronians do. If there's a faction that gives me a good idea, I'll probably change direction.

At the end of the Last War, shortly after the Mourning, Travok d’Kundarak was riding along the outskirts of what would soon be called the Mournlands. No one had dared to enter the grey mists left in the wake of the disaster. Travok rode all day, searching for survivors and surveying the damage. As he stopped to check a ruined building, a young man with pale grey skin and white hair came wandering out of the mist. He was confused and somewhat sickly, but the dwarf took pity on the boy and brought him to House Kundarak. There they cared for the boy and found he had a knack for magic. Bas worked for the house in a secretive role. He spent his time gathering information of all kinds to assist the house in discovering and mitigating any threats to that which they were bound to protect. He now finds himself in Adderport, looking for any new threats to report to the House.
Ancidus was created for war -- for killing. It may have always been sentient, but it never questioned its purpose. Now, after the war, Ancidus finds they have nothing but time to reflect on it. Where before at night when keeping silent watch they would plan, strategize for the next day's combat, now they contemplate this new feeling -- not guilt, but perhaps regret? Having been directed to find new purpose, they endeavor to make sure all the souls who lost their lives in war might now be put to rest, acknowledged and accounted for. Ancidus will take any job that might give them an excuse to visit past sites of combat, moving from one to another attempting to provide closure for the deceased.
Victorin (he answers to Victor or Vic) is in Adderport looking for work. A journeyman inquisitive, he is working out of a small guild offshoot in Newthrone and climbing the ranks. With the steady stream of refugees and renegades there was no shortage of work in the city, though none was immediately present for the taking. The work had become easier in some respects, and harder in others, since the dragonmark manifested a few years ago. With it came some small skills at magic and an improved gut feeling when things were out of place, as well as some heavy feelings about a relationship with House Medani that he didn’t know he had.
Born and raised in a small Khoravar enclave in Newthrone, his parents immigrated (fled?) to Q’Barra from Breland in the early days and spoke nothing of a family bloodline before passing away. The tight knit Khoravar community is the only family he has known. Some see the mark as a source of pride, others as a burden. Elder Harrow believes it can be more trouble than it is worth. Vic keeps it covered with a scarf and few inside the community, and no one without, knows he has it. There are few official representatives of the house in the region anyway, making the issue of his heritage not as important as finding work at the moment.
Vehdim's mother is a halfling of the Hall, his father is a human smith. His mother has been shunned by her family, but embraced by his extended human family. Vehdim styles his last name as a Ghallanda, but he is not acknowledged by the house. His father feels no slight at this as he is proud of his son's desire to full live in both cultures.
Growing up in the Dura of Sharn above his father's shop, Vehdim has crafted a steel dinosaur in hopes of one day bringing honor to his, and his mother's family name. He looks to the ways of House Deneith to bring glory hrough martial prowess and cunning.
5 years before the Last War ended, Adran was a cult leader, using his charismatic nature to convince others to join his grim congregation. When the cult grew big enough, a bloodletting sacrifice took place to summon the fanatics' patron into their world. As a portal opened and something started to crawl through, he realized that he was messing with forces far greater than him. In that moment of extreme clarity, he vowed to undo what he had started, and he meant it more than anything he had ever done in his life before then; that was the moment when he became a Paladin. Horrors spreading everywhere, pulling his cultists into the indescribable hell that was leaking into the room, he grabbed the innocent man being sacrificed and ran. Despite Adran's efforts, the man succumbed to blood loss, but did so far enough away from the otherworldly threat; without enough innocent blood, the portal closed. Ever since that day, he has been fighting the war that even the highest generals and warlords know nothing of- not a war between mortals, but between mortals and the various forces that wish to see them destroyed in their entirety.
