"It will be the Road Trip to remember!" chides a girl who was sitting across from the group eavesdropping. You look at her, some smile, a couple scowl, the return your attentions to the old map stretched out on the table before you, a couple of salt shakers and a ketch up bottle holding 3 of the corners down. This map was found during one of your small groups escapades while sneaking around an abandon house out on Rt. 5, and has been the focus of your attentions for the past month. It's the beginning of summer. Most of you have graduated (or have just been hanging around for a while) and your plans don't start till fall so you have set your sights on 1 last summer trip. This will be EPIC! Each of you have begged, borrowed and/or stole enough money (or you believe so) to take this trip before being forced to become "responsible". Old Earl from down the road lent you one of his old cars(1975 Cadillac coupe deville, gold in color with rust spots). It doesn't look like much but it is big enough for everyone and 1 bag and though it runs a bit rough, your enthusiasm is so high, nothing seems to be able to stop you. One last sip and you collect your things and head out the door.
Hello. This game will be using "Lost Mind of Phandelver" as its core but will be told/played in a "Modern Setting" by incorporating the rules from the DMG and a couple of supplements. Make no mistake this game will be 5e based- where magic and tech. are both real. Looking for 4 to 5 players for this game. All classes & races from the "official books" are allowed, ie. no homebrew. (Not too keen on the CR stuff either so might not a be good choice for a character) Characters will start at level 1 and uses point buy or standard array. Starting equipment will be standard but for the flavor of the game, renaming them for their "modern equivalent" would be appropriate. ((Sorry but no one starts with a firearm)) Backgrounds will have a "modern flavor" to them as well. (Hard No on Custom backgrounds) Posts should be once a day.
If you are interested in playing drop a character below. I will keep this up for a few days. Any questions you can message me.
Location: The background setting will be in small town in America. Some of the names from the module will change but its base will still be the module. Year: looking around the 1980's. So..that level of tech. (no cell phones, mass use of internet-per se,) I have an opening for the game, just waiting to see if there is some interest. If not, no worries, I am interested in this idea and will keep trying till I get it right :D As for items/equipment, there are suggestions in the DMG plus a couple of other "Modern Setting" supplements.
Religions: I intend not delve too deep into the minutiae of religions, nor nationality and the like, allowing the players to create that part of it. Money: going to use the 5e standard of gold to keep it simple. I would not want to revamp alot right now, in hopes that certain things will evolve into the games background. Languages:: 5e -keeping it simple for right now.
I hope answers some of your questions. If not by all means ask.
Kae's never had much money. Instead, she's had something much better (to her): curiosity. Bundles of it. Roaming the streets at a young age, she stumbled upon a scrap yard. Like instinct drives a bird to migrate during winter, Kae's curiosity wouldn't let her walk away. So she explored, and scavenged, and generally poked around.
And then she found it. Two tons of metal and rubber. The most beautiful thing Kae had ever seen. The outside was just peeling paint and broken windows, but under the hood was a glorious trophy of ingenuity and progress that the young urchin couldn't help but be fascinated by. A couple too many parts were missing for it to be fixed without practically replacing the whole thing, but just because it could never drive again didn't mean it was without value.
Kae named it Cronus, and every day she would spend at least an hour just studying it. Learning what made it work became a favorite hobby of hers. Eventually, she wondered how it would feel to drive, so she "borrowed" a family's car while they were on vacation. The inevitable crash that ensued forced her to quickly discover her talent at fixing automobiles, and it was safely back in the garage within the week, with just a couple barely visible dents. She started to offer her new mechanical talents to those who needed it, sometimes for money and sometimes just for drive time. Recently, though, she's been saving up for a Summer road trip with her friends.

Backstory: Adopted by an elf and an orc at age four, Alice was raised working her family’s grocery store. She developed her magic at a young age, and ever since has been curious about her birth parents. Despite this curiosity, she wouldn’t give her parents up for the world. She wants to learn about who she is and where she comes from
I've never heard of that subclass before. Where's it from?

This sounds like a real fun idea for an adventure. I'd like to join.
Name: Burt Beef
Class: Barbarian (Wild Magic)
Background: (Son of a) Marine
Backstory: The son of a good, kindhearted marine, it was kind of assumed by everyone in his life that Burt was going to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, those dreams ended when is father got into a fatal accident. Ever since them, Burt has been plagued by constant misfortune, his mother falling into depression and him having to drop out of high school due to failing grades, and Burt is also extremely prone to accidents himself. In spite of his bad luck, though, Burt still tries his best to be nice to other people and help where he can- It's what his father would have wanted, after all. Burt ended up inheriting his father's build, and kindhearted, helpful disposition, but the death of his father combined with the constant misfortune that followed afterward severely diminished his sense of self-worth, and killing all desire to follow in his father's footsteps.
It was only recently that his luck began to change for the better, his mother finally beginning to pull herself together, and relatives and family friends pitching to help take care of his mom while he can finally go out and enjoy the world after so many years of hardship.
Still working on stringing it all into a more concise story, so for now I'll put in some bullet points:
A local born kid belonging to a family with a long history of family members joining either the military or city watchmen
Was groomed at an early age in anticipation of following in the footsteps of his father by his father and grandfather, though had this training tempered by his mother, a devotee of Ilmater and charity worker, and by often times more chaotic friends
Developed an acute sense of responsibility not only for his own actions, but for others in his neighborhood, often leading him to go out of his way at times to go out of his way to help
With high school being over and with the mounting pressure of getting into college or the city watch academy, Sully was at a loss at first when the topic of what 'he' wanted to truly do was broached by friends. So when suggested taking a road trip to clear his head and have some real fun before cosigning himself to "The Man's" service, it hadn't taken much convincing. And as he wasn't much for spending his allowance on himself, he had plenty saved up. So with his mother's assistance in convincing his dad on leaving him to it, he'd set off with his friends, eager to stretch his legs, but more importantly, keep his friends from getting up to too much trouble.

It wasn't easy being the son of a traveling "Spiritual Healer" (read: snake oil salesman). Always being the new kid made Eddie an easy target for bullies at school and didn't help when your father was a literal joke who scammed his way through life until he got kicked out of town and moved on to the next. Sick and tired of his father's schemes, Eddie's mother ran off when he was three and now all he can remember are her faces. The stern, blonde haired, elven noblewoman who would be awed by one of his Dad's products, the kindly older dwarf with the patchy hair and beard that would magically regrow after using some stupid cream, but most of all he remembered her true face the blank expressionless mask that was just like his own. Something his Dad made sure to take advantage of when demonstrating his amazing "all natural" cures. No Mum, no friends, no life of his own. The only benefits Eddie gained from being related to "Miracle" Max Robichaux were the ability to spot a mark and to convince them that the tonics, creams, crystals and salves his father sold actually did something.
That was until Eddie and his Dad moved to town and stayed long enough for Eddie to actually learn the names of his classmates and actually graduate High School.
As a lonely boy all Eddie wanted were real friends, as a man who could be literally anyone, all Eddie wants is to find out who he really is and being invited on this road trip by his new classmates might just be his chance to get both.
Hi I’m kinda new to dnd. I know the rules and stuff I just need a way to get started. If your interested in a newbie here’s my character.
Name: Shea Ohmsford
Race: Air Genasi
Class: Ranger
Backstory: Sentenced to a life in prison for a murder he did not commit, he lost all of his friends and those he would call family. When he escaped, he felt a connection with his cell mates , who had escaped with him, but that bond was son broken as they would rob him and he would not see them again.
Shea has lived a hard life traveling from place to place, sometimes sleeping on the dank floor and even killing one or two people out of self defense. He does not enjoy combat but finds thrill in it at the same time. He will stop at nothing to avenge anyone even a complete stranger. He is a friendly guy when you get to know him but there will always be that hole in his heart, a hole that can only be filled by a true friend.
