Hi! I'm looking for 4 players to join me for a simple dnd campaign run on the DNDBeyond forums. I'd like to run the game as long as possible. More details below.
Game Details:
System: Only 2024 5e
Theme: Heroic Fantasy with Black-and-White morality/Good vs Evil
Setting: The Forgotten Realms
I will be using a party-based initiative system. I'll roll initiative for all PC's(Player Character) and average the results. I'll do the same for the monsters. Whichever side with the highest initiative goes first.
XP Based leveling. XP is awarded for completing story goals/tasks. The party will earn additional XP when appropriate.
Posting expectations: At least once per day. Go a full day without posting and I'll bot your character. Do let me know when you're unable to post for a long period of time. If you don't post for 4 days straight, and don't let me know beforehand, you will be removed from the game
Posting length: I don't mind really care about post length as long as it's not too excessive(too short or too long). I care more about players meeting their posting expectations.
Character Creation Rules:
Please create your character using only the 2024 Player's Handbook. No Homebrew or 2014 sources
Starting Level: 1
Ability Scores: Use 27 Point-Buy, or standard array. No rolling.
Alignment: No evil or disruptive characters. They must be motivated to do good, perform heroic deeds, and are all willing to work with their party members.
XP Based Leveling. Everyone will gain XP at the same rate.
Sheet: I don't mind which sheet you use as long as it's accessible online 24/7 for anyone.
Starting Scenario:
The adventure begins in a small, unimportant village tavern. Your character, strangers to one another, have always felt incomplete, as if something crucial is missing from their lives. Suddenly, the tavern door bursts open. A villager rushes in, crying for help. Their child has been kidnapped by monsters!
At that moment, your character realises that this is what they've been missing. Adventure!
Applying Guide:
Write down your experience with PBP and DND 2024 5e.
Write down your character concept. You don't have to have your character sheet already completed. Use the format below:

Backstory:
I'll probably give it a few days before I choose my players. Once I've done so, I'll write a post here saying 'I've chosen the players' before closing this ad.
Experience - PBP: 5 years - DND 2024 5e: Since it was released
Character Name: Whisper
Class: Paladin
Species: Tabaxi (if that's OK)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory:
Born in the dense and whispering jungles, Whisper of Steel was unlike most of his kin. While others chased the thrill of discovery or the rhythm of their roving paws, Whisper had been captivated by the stillness of ancient temples and the order within them. He was taken in as a cub by a wandering priest of Torm who saw something unshakable in his gaze—perhaps a divine spark, or maybe just a rare focus for a Tabaxi.
Under the discipline of the priesthood, Whisper trained in the ways of duty, courage, and justice. Yet, he never lost the innate curiosity of his people. His tail twitched at every untold tale, his ears perked at the mention of legends. The contradiction within him—fervent duty and reckless curiosity—would shape the soul of a paladin.
Whisper has been in this town, for what he thought would be only a few weeks, having arrived on a supply ship from Chult. His coin is running low, and he’s taken refuge in the tavern. There, he preaches to the fearful adventurers over mugs of ale, sometimes ridiculed, sometimes admired. He watches the well at the center of the inn with burning intensity, waiting for the right companions and the right moment to descend—not for gold or glory, but to confront the shadows that mock righteousness.
He carries with him a small stone amulet of Torm, a journal filled with questions for the divine, and the ceremonial spear of his lost jungle tribe, reforged as a symbol of his oath.
Experience with 5e24: I have played 1 one shot in real time and another in PbP.
Character Name : Zalvok Thrysh
Class : Ranger
Species : Tiefling
Background : Guide
Backstory : When he was a child Zalvok and his parents moved in a small village where he grew up. While villagers weren't as judgy as townsfolk he remembers they still didn't accept him associtating his hunting prowess with his devilish origin so he started travelling in search for more accepting people.
Character Name: Boll Girnn (First name is pronounced like Ball)
Class: Barbarian (planned subclass: wildheart)
Species: Rock Gnome
Background: Wild Hunter (Custom Background with 2 skills and 2 languages)
Backstory: Spending her early days in the very village that this campaign starts in, her home village, Boll was quite the chaotic little gremlin had quite the temper, despite this, she had good intentions and good heart. Once she was of age, she was given her signature Great Axe that she named Barbra, and the job of going out to hunt wild animals for food for the village. This would let her release some of that pent up energy and rage in a way that would help the villagers. Boll loved this job. Boll would learn to Harness her rage into a force that would give her a physical edge needed to successfully kill her prey and expertly wield Barbra, and to eventually do the world as a whole much good, as she fulfilled this role. However, she is still a chaotic little gremlin and has gotten a bit bored with the hunting as of lately. She was getting a drink at the Tavern when a villager she knew burst in crying for help... and the rest is history.
Write down your experience with PBP and DND 2024 5e: I've played a few Pbp games on D&D Beyond, tried DMing a few, and have little experience with 2024 5e. I haven't done this in a while but I know how it works and would like to get into it again.
I've been playing play by post games for decades now. I check all my games at least once a day, but usually more often. I'm currently running a game that is a mix of 2014 and 2024 rules, and I have played in a few games using 2024 rules before.
Character Image:
Character Name: Dawn
Class: Cleric
Species: Aasimar
Background: Acolyte
Backstory: She was left as a baby outside the entrance to a Temple to Dawnfather early in the morning of Highsummer. Just her appearance made it obvious that this was no ordinary baby, but one touched by the divine. Although this temple didn't normally take in orphans, they did decide to take in this child, naming her Dawn in homage to Dawnfather and the time she was found. Knowing no life other than the temple, Dawn grew to be a capable child, wise, smart, and charismatic. Although lacking in physical strength, she had the stamina to keep going through physically challenging chores. As she grew older, Dawn was trained in the ways of a Cleric. Her lack of strength made her unsuited to be a protector, but she was well suited to being a Thaumaturge. Also it was much easier on her mind to call divine fire upon an enemy than to beat on them herself. As a teen she was sent on errands around the city, originally with an escort, but eventually on her own. Now that she's turned 18, the priests have decided that it is best that she gets experience out in the world, so as to be a better cleric, To gain more experience of the trials and tribulations that others go through.
I've been playing D&D and PBP since 2021. I'm currently playing in a 2024 PBP campaign. :)
Character Name: Surina Xarith
Class: Monk
Species: Dragonborn
Background: Guide
Backstory: Surina Xarith was raised in the wilderness, far from civilization. Her clan taught her the ways of self-defense and combat, as they did all young dragonborn. Surina was a natural at martial arts and became one of her clan's greatest defenders. But Surina always had a wanderlust that was absent in most of her clan. She wanted to see more of the world and experience new cultures and peoples.
It wasn't long before Surina realized she could make a good amount of gold selling her martial and survival skills to others in need of a guide in the wilderness. She has gone on several journeys with her clients, including to places as remote as the far jungles or sandy deserts. Surina knows she will return to her clan one day and settle down but for now she is content to live the life of a guide and wandering adventurer.
Background: Guard (Can I swap Cook's Utensils for the Gaming set?)
Backstory: Bethany grew up working for her father at her family's inn. Her mother died in childbirth with her, leaving her the last of a few siblings. She was always big and strong for her age and liked reading and playing out tales of brave knights and warriors. Her father tried very hard to squeeze her into her role as a cook for the business but when she was old enough, she fled that life. She hooked up with a mercenary band who promised to train her as a warrior. When they discovered her cooking skills, she became camp cook. Her only solace was one of the veterans, a dwarf named Jarroz, trained her on the side, when he could, and she developed into a promising warrior, breaking away from the mercenary group after a successful job, and setting out on her own.
I have about 4 years experience with pbp. As for the 2024 rules, I am still fairly new and have only recently started dabling in them
Character Name: Dakota Ashenforge
Class: Sorcerer (plan to go dragonic)
Species: Human
Background: Charleton
Backstory:
Dakota Blackthorn has always been a man of many faces. Raised in city back alleys by a con artist who taught him the art of deception, Dakota made a living selling fake potions and reading fortunes out of painted glass orbs. His silver tongue and showmanship made him a crowd favorite—especially when he’d put on dramatic displays of “magic” with sleight of hand and smoke bombs.
But one day, real magic erupted from his hands.
Flames burst from his fingers during a staged "fire ritual," nearly burning the entire market square. The con became reality. Scales briefly shimmered on his skin. His dreams turned to visions of a massive, coiled dragon whispering forgotten truths. Something ancient stirred inside him, and Dakota began to suspect his blood carried more than charm and trickery.
Afraid, but intrigued, he left the city under cover of night, wandering from town to town, pretending to be just another vagabond fortune-teller while secretly trying to understand his powers. Still, it never felt right. No matter how far he traveled or how many masks he wore, something inside him ached—a sense that he was meant for more.
Experience: I am a veteran gamer - started with AD&D back in the late '70s/early '80s. I've been playing PbP since 2018. I prefer a good story to optimized mechanics. I have come to absolutely trust in the awesome power of randomness =) I own and have read through the v5.24 rule set - I am familiar with the rules but still getting used to the differences between 5e and 5.24.
Character Image:
Character Name: Bunyip Bluegrim
Class: Rogue
Species: Halfling
Background: Charlatan
Backstory: Bunyip Bluegrim was born into this bustling community, where meals were celebrations and laughter was the town’s heartbeat. From an early age, he learned that a well-cooked meal could mend feuds, ease sorrows, and bring even the grumpiest folk together. Yet, while his hands were quick with a skillet, they were just as nimble with a set of lockpicks. Bunyip had a knack for slipping in and out of places unseen—a skill that found its use when townfolk needed lost heirlooms retrieved or an unfair merchant taught a lesson. As he grew older, he tried to focus on his passion for food, believing that a well-fed friend was the most loyal kind. He would hum as he stirred great pots of stew, offering sage wisdom between chopping onions and insisting that every problem—be it heartbreak, betrayal, or even a kingdom in peril—could be remedied with the right meal. But as he watched adventurers come through the town, he always felt something was missing from his life and his recipes. Perhaps adding a zest for adventure would add the right spice to his food!
I’ve some PbP experience with 2024 rules but no in-person table experience with it. I’ve a few years of 5 e experience otherwise though, having become interested in it after being exposed to Critical Role during COVID and then realising almost every RPG I’ve played was sometimes less and quite often more directly cribbing from DND, and became hyper focused on the lore, watching a lot of DND YouTube lore and reading a lot of the published source settings from advanced through to the modern day.
Dunn was a young man when he began to look different. Though his mother was fair and fair-haired, and for much of his childhood Dunn was too, it was when he began to sprout that his eyes became unnaturally bright and his hair became the gold of fine currency rather than the gold of wheat. Though his mother refuses to name his father, Dunn has begun to suspect his is an Aasimar, one descended from celestial roots — and much he has questioned in himself has begun to be evaluated in the context of this enlightenment.
Dunn has yearned for years for more than his parochial life, working in his mother’s general store. To do great works, like many teens, but good ones too. Now he knows he seeks honour his celestial father, perhaps, but also to seek out fragments of celestial lore and magic, until he can be more certain of who he is, and why he feels he’ll be more of what he is supposed to be out there rather than at home.
When the tavern door slams open, Dunn is amongst the first to stand, the words offering his aid on his tongue before he can scarcely do more than think of them.
Write down your experience with PBP and DND 2024 5e: I've played in several PBP games on both Discord and here on Beyond. I love the fact that one can have the time to compose their response and determine how others might interpret ones meaning before just blurting something inappropriate out. As for 2024 5e, I've only played a single one-shot with a character. I have been playing 5e for several years now and older editions (Blue Box/BX/BECMI/AD&D, 2E) prior to that.
Character Image:
Character Name: Leftenant
Class: Ranger
Species: Human
Background: Soldier
Backstory: Leftenant has spent the better part of his life in service to the Land Forces of the nation/kingdom. He acted as a scout to a Company of Dragoons. (A type of military unit that uses mounts to move around the battlefield. Unlike Cavalry that fight from their mounts, Dragoons dismount prior to engagement and fight on the ground.) He has since retired...some would say he was forced out for poor performance. But while he was in, he was very good at collecting troop locations and enemy strength. Information that allowed his commander and the company to effectively fight the enemy, whether they be humanoid or monstrosities. He is finding retirement more difficult than expected. He still longs to contribute to society, for that sense of commitment to a greater cause than himself, and might be looking for that cadre of personnel that can rely on his skills...as much as he unknowingly needs to rely on them for comradery. Leftenant has found himself in recent days taking on routine, boring merchant convoy escort missions to pass the time and has recently arrived in town. He was just finishing his meal, wondering what his life has come to when his attention is drawn to the tavern door as it nearly flies off its hinges.
experience PBP: I have been playing PBP actively for about a year.
experience D&D: I have played and DMed 5e on and off for around 8 years. I have been playing with the 2024 rules for the past few months.
Name: Alex
Race: Human
Class: Paladin/Bard
Background: Noble
Backstory: “Trust no one.” Those were the last words Alexander heard from his father. Alex does not know who killed his family, just that he was the only survivor. His last name holds no purpose anymore so he has discarded it and resolved himself to find a way to survive.
Alex was raised in a small noble house. He was always in the library study or out with any guard that would train him. His personality always shines through and was able to make friends with anyone that would talk to him. From a young age he was able to turn his strong emotions into power. That power could heal or harm others so Alex wished to help others when he was an adult. Now those memories are a story Alex wishes to never tell others. Once happy memories are just filled with sorrow. Alex is driven by his conviction and desire to survive. As he knows very well one cannot survive without allies so he will search for others he can trust.
Experience with PBP and 2024-5E: So I have done some characters with the new rules but only ran one character in a 2024 rules campaign so far. I have done several PBP campaigns.
Character Image:
Character Name: Nyx Darkflint
Species: Fairy
Class: Warlock (Pact of the Tome, Fiend)
Background: Entertainer
Backstory: Nyx was chased out of the Feywild as soon as he accepted The Fiend instead of The Archfey as his patron. But he wouldn't have it any other way. By accepting The Fiend, it freed him from an eternity of servitude to the Archfey and his court. He wanted to explore the world so why wouldn't he accept The Fiend's help to do so. It only cost him his soul which he was bound to lose if he stayed anyways.
I have years of experience with PbP on Discord with the 2014 rules and a few months here on the forums with 2024 rules.
Name: Ashar Marrakhis Class: Wizard Species: Tiefling (Infernal) Background: Sage Backstory: Ashar was never truly welcome at the Solenirum Lyceum. Though he earned his place through his own wits, the sight of his violet skin, curling horns, and swaying tail stirred unease among his peers. The faculty acknowledged his aptitude, but their praise was always laced with caution. In those grand marble halls Ashar remained an outsider. One argument with a classmate turned into a reckless exchange of spells, and a surge of uncontrolled magic hurled him against the stone balustrade. When he awoke, one of his horns had been shattered in half, a jagged reminder of the prejudice that dogged his steps.
Rather than justice, the Lyceum offered politeness and distance. The incident was buried under layers of red tape, and Ashar was urged to “take time to reflect.” Instead, he walked away. With what few possession he had, the most prized of which was his spellbook, he struck out to learn the ways of magic on his own.
Weeks later, Ashar came upon a quiet village. Though some of the villagers watched him with cautious eyes, they offered no hostility. He rented a modest room in the tavern and set up a workspace by the window. Now, he spends his days reading, writing, and watching the wind stir the trees beyond the rooftops. His broken horn casts a sharp silhouette in the light, but Ashar wears it without shame. And in this humble place, he waits. He's not sure what for, but he'll know it when he sees it.
No actual PbP experience however I have played with 2024 rules for a bit, pretty much as soon as it came out.
Image (AI generated cinematic shot)
Name: Shaddar Al-Khatul
Class: Fighter, plan to put some levels into monk as well
Species: Human
Background: Wayfarer
Backstory: Grew up in the eastern lands of A’zir. He was left an orphan by the Tyrant Kothak’s army, destroying his whole village. He made his way westward towards civilization and grew up in a place he was not welcome in. He struggled to survive, using his martial training he learnt from his late father to protect himself. Recently he has found a town where the people are more welcoming, and settles there momentarily before lusting for adventure again.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"Uh, I have Illusory Script. I think I can read that."
Backstory: "Why is everyone so nosy? If you must know I got tired dig, dig, digging all day. I didn't want to spend the rest of my decades burrowing through the earth. I wanted to explore!" With eyes expanding with a slight maniacal widening, he grins savagely and continues with "I wanted to see the sky, I want to build things to stand under the Sun & Night! To build and create with my hands... and perhaps dig a little bit in my OWN mine..."
The dwarf lights his pipe, "I write and make maps. The occasional festival trick." Blows a few rings that turn into smokey images fish leaping out of a flowing stream. "My Name is Ulf. Anything thing else you just have to know?"
Tell me if the link doesn't work, my computer is acting a little weird.
Character Name: Valiair
Class: Paladin (plan to multiclass warlock, then valor bard for a gish that's actually good)
Species: Aasimar (I don't have the digital books, so I manually did stuff for my character sheet)
Background: Custom (can change if that's not allowed)
Backstory: Ever since his family died, Vailiair has been adrift, drinking at bars and ignoring his angelic heritage. One day when drinking, he hears a desperate plea for help and knows what he must do.
I've been DMing a 2024 game for several months, so plenty of experience there. I've tried joining play by post games several times, but it never worked out. Also, lawful good.

Tool, the Kenku Wizard
I’ve some PbP experience with 2024 rules but no in-person table experience with it. I’ve a few years of 5 e experience otherwise though, having become interested in it after being exposed to Critical Role during COVID and then realising almost every RPG I’ve played was sometimes less and quite often more directly cribbing from DND, and became hyper focused on the lore, watching a lot of DND YouTube lore and reading a lot of the published source settings from advanced through to the modern day.
Character Image:
Character Name: Dunn Laisin (https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/147708474/hpSim2)
Class: Warlock
Species: Aasimar
Background: Merchant
Backstory:
Write down your experience with PBP and DND 2024 5e:
I've played in several PBP games on both Discord and here on Beyond.
Name: Ashar Marrakhis
Class: Wizard
Species: Tiefling (Infernal)
Background: Sage
Backstory: Ashar was never truly welcome at the Solenirum Lyceum.

I've been DMing a 2024 game for several months, so plenty of experience there. I've tried joining play by post games several times, but it never worked out. Also, lawful good.
Oops, missed that part. Went back and edited my entry to add my playing experience.
Me too! =)
