Lost a few players in my game and I am looking to replace them. Though a bit further along in the game, the story is relatively young. I need a few players that are currently in Phandalin and have done something to catch the eye of the city guard. You are currently locked up, awaiting trial for your crime. Phandalin is a gold rush, wild west style town.
I'd really like to offer spots to newer players that want to learn and play.
Paste your character info and backstory here.
Copy and paste of the game rules:
This game is limited to new players only. There are not enough games open for new players to get in on. All content will be used from the Players Handbook (PHB) to allow access to most of the material available for free.
Read through all of this. I want to make sure this is going to work for you as well as myself and the others in the party. I've had a few people drop out from another game of mine. It sucks. Please be committed. I know exigent circumstances do occur and understand, but I would like to have a group that can remain together for the duration of the adventure.
Selections will be made from backstorys and party survival optimization.
This adventure will follow the printed adventure to begin with, but may stray off the rails.
About me:
I’m Kyle. Only had real experience in 5e games here in PbP games. Newer DM here ready to bring others into the D&D universe. I will be running a Lost Mines of Phandelver game. I can post at least once a day for the most part, but they will be lengthy so there should be plenty to work off of.
If you’re new to this, don’t worry, I am as well. I want to keep the group small and manageable.
5e game! PbP game posting at least once a day. Casual game folks! We all have lives. I enjoy roleplay and I want this to be a roleplay heavy game, so feel free to roleplay with one another between my posts. I tend to like detailed posters. One-liners tend to hem up the game quite a bit. And please please please use proper English.
This game features adults, using adult language. You have been warned. (Acquisitions Incorporated reference)
Starting at level 1. Characters will be races from the PHB only for the sake of keeping things simple with standard array or point buy, so no min/max stats, with starting equipment. If you want a back story go crazy. I will try to add them into the story somehow if possible. Attach a pic to your PC as well, please. Looking for 4, possibly 5 players.
Again, this is intended to be roleplay heavy in proper English.
Apply by posting your character here. Include the following:
Character name
Class
Race
Background (Impress with that background (roleplay heavy game))
Character description
Give me a line about your experience as well. Just curious about your experience level.
Example: I run toward the gap in the floor and jump. This isn’t going to be good. Just prior to jumping, I cast light on my quarterstaff. As I land, I take a swing at the guard with my quarterstaff. “You killed my father!”
Any skills, attacks and damage rolls (rolls need to be done in the forum with the dice roller) in the third line like so:
Milestone. I am not a fan of running games with XP leveling up. This gives the idea to players that killing everyone and everything will level up your character faster. I do not want to run a game filled with murder hobos killing everything in their wake and not roleplaying any other solutions. I will level your character when appropriate. Killing extra will not get you there any faster.
Initiative and combat:
Once we enter initiative, I will most likely roll for everyone if you haven’t beat me to it. This is to save time so we do not have to wait for someone to post a single roll to begin and proceed. The initiative will be listed in, most likely, its own post for easy access. I don’t want to tie the game up waiting for combat so if you take a while, I will post your action with your best interest in mind.
Loot and treasure:
Coins will be decided evenly to avoid a player vs player fight. The remainder goes to the Gods! You’re part of a team with some common goal, so act the part. Treasure items will be worked out between the party members. That is for you all to roleplay through and decide upon. No fighting like children. Looting will only find you coins and worthy items. I don’t want to have to deal with someone carrying 17 goblin swords to sell later for a grand total of 2 gp. I’ll give you guys coin and items so don’t worry about that.
Help action:
If you plan on "helping" another player to gain advantage, I won't grant it if you simply say "I help." I need to know how you are going to help this other person in this action. "I will help pull the door closed." "I will help push this item out of the way." Those would be fine to use the help action. Some actions I cannot bring myself to grant advantage for helping, such as lockpicking. How is a second person going to "help" you pick a lock?
Holding items:
I do pay attention to this. Two-handed weapons require two hands, so no shield. Want to hold two weapons? They both must be light. (Obviously, feats overrule this.)
Shields costs 1 action in combat to don or doff a shield (PHP 146). If you are a shield fighter, equip or unequip your shield on your sheet so I get an accurate representation of your AC.
Changing weapons? Rules as written (RAW) states you can stow your weapon as your one free action at the end of your turn, then draw a different weapon as your one free action at the start of your next turn.
Rule disagreements:
I don’t mind a discussion about rules (I’m still learning), but at the end of the day, I’m the DM (not trying to sound like a dick). The discussion will take place in the chat thread.
My only pet peeve:
Do not run my game and do not run another player’s character. We are here to have fun. This is not a war game where combat optimization is key, this is a roleplaying game. Taking over a game ruins the experience for everyone else involved. Don’t be that player please or a rogue tarrasque will take care of your character for me.
Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want. I lie about almost everything, even when there’s no good reason to.
Ideals
Independence. I am a free spirit—no one tells me what to do. (Chaotic)
Bonds
A powerful person killed someone I love. Some day soon, I’ll have my revenge.
Flaws
I’m convinced that no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.
An orphan of the streets, Arvel quickly learned that his good looks and silver tongue could allow him to get away with almost anything. A low-level conman, he prides himself on never taking anything that wasn't freely given.
A year ago, he was ready to hang it all up and go straight. Because he'd met Luala and wanted to marry her. On the night he planned to propose, Arvel approached Luala sitting on a stone bench in a park. When he touched her shoulder, she fell to the ground. Her throat had been slashed and her dress was dyed deep red with her blood.
Arvel turned to shout for help but he stopped suddenly. A bloody dagger had mysteriously appeared in his hand. Stunned by this, Arvel didn't hear the approach of the watchmen.
Seized, jailed, and set to be put on trial for murder he sat in his cell weeping over his fate and his lost love.
That's when She appeared. The woman appeared Elven, but was more beautiful than any elf Arvel had ever seen before. The offer was simple, Arvel would be given his freedom and a small measure of power to continue his conniving ways and in exchange he would render Her service when She required.
Seeing no other way out, Arvel accepted and became a Warlock in service to the Archfey woman.
The next morning he was released from prison. The guards explained that a common street thug had come forward and confessed to the murder. Arvel took all he had saved and set out for a life of adventure to escape his pain and grow his power.
Edited character sheet link. Should work now. Let me know if there's any problems.
Very new player here. Not much TRPG experience, but I used to play Warhammer 40k and fantasy back in the day. I did play a game of Silent Titans a few weeks ago. I live in Japan, and have trouble finding enough English speaking adult friends to play with. It's also difficult for me to find online games that sync up with my time zone. I am also an aspiring GM. Looking for a group to help me get better acquainted with the flow of the game and rules. Willing to do a bit of character editing to fit the story.

BACKSTORY
Gesh, like all young dragonborn of his clan, grew up in the shadow of admiration of his clan's greatest warrior, Vraklasar Alther. Typical of his ilk, he had an obsession with perfection. He trained tirelessly everyday with the sword and shield. In Gesh’s opinion, he only ever had one good day in his life. The day Alther chose to train him personally as his successor. He never really had a bad day, only one bad night. The night he discovered Alther selling their prisoners of war to some hooded figures. Their only unique features where strange tentacles dangling out of their cloaks. That was also the night he shattered Alther’s blade and ended his life. Obviously not through skill or experience, as Alther had much more. No, it was drive. This drive is what carried him through the ensuing chaos after. Expulsion, imprisonment, and eventual redemption. During their duel and with his dying breath, Alther had tried to explain his reasons for selling the prisoners. That there were unseen elements that Gesh could not understand. That he chose the lesser evil to protect the greater good. Gesh understood alright. He knew the moment he decided that he had to cross swords with his mentor. That he would not stop until he destroyed whatever evil had corrupted the paragon of Clan Vraklasar. That he must eradicate the corruption that preyed upon those who fought valiantly and accepted defeat. That he could not control his anger at an evil that seeded such dishonor. Vraklasar Ghesh has a drive alright, and hatred is its fuel.
Background (Impress with that background (roleplay heavy game)
Argus Dogglefell comes from a solder family who lived most of their life near Waterdeep. He has trained to fight since he was a young child. Argus will never admit when he is wrong, but will fight for the greater good.

Give me a line about your experience as well. Just curious about your experience level. - Totally new to 5E and Play by post.
I am interested in joining your campaign if a spot is still available. I have been playing tabletop role-playing for 2 years. I've played D&D 2nd and 5th as well as a little Pathfinder. I enjoy playing with both experienced and other new players. I do prefer adventures that allow you to explore and require interaction with other players and NPCs to advance the story. I have daily access to my phone and CPU and would have no problem posting on a daily basis.
I am flexible with character creation and could change to suit the party but do have an affinity for Druids and Clerics.
Character name: Silva Mist - True Neutral Half-Elf Druid of the Marsh. She has a cool even-temperament but is direct. Her instincts are closer to an animal than human/elf - she will hunt for food, fur and self-defense but would never intentionally harm an animal for sport. In a dangerous situation she would take a non-violent path if available but if cornered can become as deadly as a wolf.
Silva Mist lives with a small tribe of druids that tend to the remains of the Mere of Dead Men. The Mere is rarely traveled and usually avoided by traders and travelers on the High Road. Silva's tribe tend to the animals of the Mere and attempt to restore the balance of nature as the lands have fallen to waste after a history of battles, rising Undead and invasion by a Black Dragon. These days the Mere is a quiet somber area that is avoided by locals.
On a journey out of Mere to gather supplies from a local village, Silva spent two nights with a family of farmers. On the third night the village was attacked by a roaming band of Undead. After the villagers drove off the attack Silva did what she could to help with the wounded - but soon found she was being accused of Necromancy and Witchcraft. Despite her pleas Silva was arrested and is currently on her way to north to the nearest city, Phandalin, to await her trial and sentencing.
Hey! I‘m super new to d&d, my entire experience consisting of an one shot with my friends, would love to join your group if you have the room!
Name: Razo Liella
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Rogue
Backstory: Razo was the second and less important son of the family. His father owned a fleet of carts that transported various wares for the the merchant consortium owned by members of his extended family. While for the most part they were comfortably well off, his father constantly fretted about family finances and turned to smuggling to ensure that he could retire rich and pass on a thriving business to his older son. While Razo's brother spent his time learning accounting and bargaining - his father didn't want to risk his scion being caught on the wrong side of the law, Razo himself was recruited into his father's smuggling operation as soon as he was deemed old enough to drive a cart. While at first he only reluctantly participated, he soon discovered his talent for stealth and misdirection. As he grew older, Razo grew more bold and relished any opportunity to practise his talents, developing a tendency to filch items carelessly left unattended, no matter their worth. In order to pawn of whatever trinkets he had illegally obtained, he developed a contacts with fences willing to buy them off him at every town he visited.
His constant travels meant there was little chance his petty crimes would be recognised, but his father's smuggling operation was disrupted when an oblivious carter Razo recruited to help him accidentally alerted guards to their hidden path into the town. Razo managed to slip away in time, but the carter, who was unaware of the illicit nature of the operation, did not realise the need to escape before he was caught. Having lost a small fortune in goods, and too aware that the carter most likely had revealed his identity to the town guards, Razo decided not to return to his father's main base of operations. Instead, he gave the town a wide berth, travelling far away, hoping to arrive at a town where he was an unknown with a blank slate.
Razo, however, had the singular misfortune of running out of supplies two-thirds of the way to Phandalin. When he stumbled into town, exhausted and starving, he thought nothing of borrowing a few supplies to get himself set up. His fatigue and unfamiliarity with his surroundings worked against him, however, and he was caught before he could find a buyer for his stolen goods, leaving him stranded in Phandalin's jail.
I'm interested if you still have an opening. I'm pretty new to D&D, having only played a couple of PBP games here, which both stopped before level 3 because of DM IRL things. I have a character from one of those games which I really like, and would love to continue playing. He's a half-orc ranger, I'll link to his sheet here, but for ease, also posted below:
Name: Grum
Race: Half-orc
Class: Ranger
Backstory: The offspring of an Orc father and a Human mother, Grum always found he never really fit in anywhere. As an adolescent, he noticed humans would keep a close eye on him, untrusting of his half-Orc nature. When trouble began to spill out across the land, this distrust deepened, and he found himself no longer welcome in human civilisation, but also not fully accepted among Orcs either. The tensions that he felt between the two civilisations grew to a head, until one day in a tavern a fight broke out between a human and an orc (neither of which Grum had ever met before!), each demanding the other take Grum away with them. Grum decided he'd had enough of both worlds, gathered what little possessions he had, and wandered off into the forests, where he learned to fend for himself - tracking, hunting, hiding where necessary to keep himself alive. One day he wandered into Giant territory. The Giants caught his scent, and he was nearly captured. Luckily, Grum was able to get away. But he had seen the giants' home, and noted their ability to find themselves food. He decided to stay close by, and for a while lived by stealing and scavenging from the giants, unknown to them. Several months later the inevitable happened. Grum was caught by the giants. He was almost killed, but once again was able to slip away, hiding and laying low until the giants gave up the hunt. But the game was up. He could no longer risk the giants' wrath, and returned to his meandering hermit life. But not before having learned a thing or two about the giants' patterns, and even some of their language.
Grum rarely needed to visit civilisation, fending and foraging for his own food, fletching his own arrows, and learning to make repairs to most of his equipment for himself. But having heard of Phandalin, and the gold on offer, Grum wondered about trying to pick up a few upgrades to his long-battered weapons. He decided to risk the hostility of the everyday folk and venture in. As he was getting his bearings in the town, trying to work out where to find what he was looking for, he heard some muttering behind him. Perceiving it to be that same dismissive chuntering about his race that he had grown used to experiencing, he muttered a grumpy response without looking up. A few moments later, an angry voice began to follow him. Grum stooped, picked up a handful of dust, turned, and threw it into the face of his now-advancing enemy. As he looked, too late, he realised it was a member of the city guard. Wanting to avoid any trouble with the law, Grum held up his hands by way of apology, muttered something about "...didn't realise...thought you were someone else...", but the irons were already being snapped around his wrists.
