A human stands upon a stage just before addressing the crowd. In a city that never sleeps, the number of people who pass by is in the hundreds. He is at first, apprehensive, hoping his message will reach those who he needs. He coughs briefly into his hand before exploding into an energetic performance.
“Greetings weary travelers! Artisans and Journeymen alike, listen now! A gathering of masters is about to take place! Only the best, and most dedicated craftsmen will be welcome. A young but talented prodigy or an age old expert could be your competition. If you wish to prove your metal, come with your greatest achievement and show it to the world!”
He takes a breath, and looks around at a somewhat captivated audience. They are seen spreading out the leaflets that the man had placed in front of the stage.
“Everyday for the next week, I will be here at noon on this stage. If you wish to participate, you need only show your skill...”
The crowd looks around, energized as well by his performance.
I'll be checking this in and out throughout the next week. My final choices will be made next Wednesday morning, with the game starting around 6 PST later that day. Here are some things you should know before applying:
-This is a bit of a different campaign. Looking for characters that are extremely skilled in a specific art, such as: a master sword smith, a famous painter, a poor but talented writer etc. You don't have to be a guild artisan but you will have to have a “life's work”
-Race\Class is somewhat restricted. If you can make one that has similar restrictions to the already made races\classes, and make a good case for why you need to make a custom, please do.
-Magic users will be SEVERELY disadvantaged as the campaign goes on. I won't elaborate more than that but its bad enough that I feel I should warn you.
-Alignment is unrestricted but chaotic evil characters will likely suffer as the campaign goes on. Once again, I won't elaborate more than that but its bad enough that I feel I should warn you.
Things I need from you: -Name\race\class -Level 1, point buy\standard array scores -Alignment -Your Masterpiece -How long it took the character to bring their masterpiece to the stage. There is one week between the announcement and deadline, pick one of the 7 days. This will come into play immediately at the start of the campaign.
-Finally, if possible, pick a color. I would greatly appreciate it if we could keep our actions\descriptions in black normal, and then switch over to Bold Color text for speech.
-Ray Lee\Human (Of Making)\Monk -10 16 14 10 14 10 https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Zyhm/characters/22779109 -Lawful -Sword made from an alloy I've created that never rusts, never dulls and has broken multiple other swords in combat. -It was the first craft I made, mostly by accident. And I've spent the rest of my life trying to re-create the alloy. -Maroon
Herm grew up in a small hovel that was all his parents could afford. They raised enough crops and critters to feed the family, but there were still more hungry days than not. He learned to hunt with his father, so he could add to the provisions on their table, though his 2 elder brothers, and 3 sisters made the amount of food needed quite large even with the added food he was able to bring in. He always thought there should be a better way to hunt, and was often tinkering with the bow, trying to make it more effective. Nothing came of that, since he really had no knowledge of such things, or the right tools to hand.
One hard winter came though, and Herm knew there was no choice. He left his family's farm, striking out in to the world on his own, knowing that one mouth less to feed would make the difference of survival for his family. His parents were saddened to see him leave, but they did not try to stop him, knowing the truth of the matter as well.
Herm traveled a while then, moving from small community to small community, and doing what tasks were needed to get him some food and shelter. As luck would have it, in a slightly bigger community, several months after leaving his parent's farm, Herm found work as a helper in a blacksmith's forge. He was mostly to do the heavy lifting, use the bellows, and do whatever else he could to aid the smith. Herm found the work good, and stayed on, eventually becoming an apprentice to the smith. Herm sent some of his earnings back to his family's farm, and soon heard his family was prospering.
It was a couple years later that he first mentioned his ideas about making a weapon that could shoot small balls of metal instead of arrows. The smith said he was crazed, and put it off as a joke. Herm was undaunted though and continued to work out the designs in his own head. He knew there needed to be some sort of propellant, to send the metal ball out of the weapon he had in his mind, so started talking to a local alchemist about what could be used for such an effect. seeing that Herm was not giving up on this idea, the smith allowed him to use his offtime to work on his creation. It took a good five years for Herm to get his first working prototype, and another few more to refine it. The end result was a sleek rifle with runes along the outside of the barrel, and a wooden stock to cushion the recoil a bit on the shoulder. the gun's metal parts were made of adamantine, a gift from his smithy mentor.
A handmade Elvish bow he's been working on since he was old enough to be trusted to work in his father's Fletcher/Bowyer shop. Something about it's design makes it feel perfect in anyone's hand who uses it, though he's yet to find anyone but himself so far that he trusts to use it.
He brings his masterpiece on day three, not wanting to seem overeager but not wanting to be the last person to arrive.
Masterpiece: A song, written in the time from the announcement to the stage. (I'm working on the lyrics. His life's work is to be a great improvisational artist)
His masterpiece is illustrated by that of a extravagantly-crafted animal charm necklace made by a tanned wolf hide fur, silver-esque twine, and some gemstones alternating from yellow, black, and red along the twine.
Torke spent much of his tribal lifetime in hunting and providing craftsmanship their tribe often disregarded. He eventually set off from his tribe to seek newfound inspiration for his work. Eventually he comes across a gathering of folk sharinf talents of different walks of art and is eager to show his own. At the crack of dawn on the 4th day he had found that his talent was truly shown by his masterpiece. He submitted it on the same day afterwards, hoping to please the man on the stage.
Masterwork - Seizure Notice for the speaker's domicile and it's contents, in lieu of late payment of taxes, on which he spent 7 days.
Colour - Let's try medium grey in bold, or perhaps dark grey if you prefer, 3rd choice is greyish blue
Origin - Big City Slum (Black Lake in Waterdeep, or Market District in Sanctuary, or Fleabottom, Luna City, as 3 examples)... the sort of place in which the denizens never knew who their fathers were, and were none to sure about Mum.

Masterpiece: An Ice sculpture of a Human Fighter besting a Paladin.
It took the whole 7 days as every time it starts to melt he has to fix it with his breath and re-sculpt the newly formed ice.
Backstory:
FrostBite had been a regular of the Gladiator circuit for some time. But as time went on less and less people were attracted to the senseless violence and required more theatric performances from the fighters. Taking on personas and fake rivals. But FrostBite was not cut out for the theater even it was just play fighting.
In the entrance to the arena was a passageway that held the trophies of past and fallen warriors. Warriors that had gotten too old to continue and others that had left for the life of adventure and never return. It was here that FrostBite found his passion for art. A piece of the slab had fallen from the ceiling and to help move the large rock, the large white Dragonborn had exhaled his frosty breath on the stone. With a swing of his Greataxe he shattered the frozen block into more manageable pieces. While carrying a shard outside, the sun shimmered across the melting ice and for a second he saw the image of the face of a maiden. There one moment, gone the next. Taking the shard back to his abode and using a pinion and hammer he spent nights trying his best to recreate what he had seen.
With training from a local woodcarver, when not called on to fight in the battlegrounds, FrostBite and be found in the entrance of the arena carving sculptures from ice.

The handle is beautifully wrapped and meticulously kept reddish brown leather with delicate stitching throughout. Time: It will only take Samwell one day to bring his sword to the stage. He has had it completed for some time, and relishes the opportunity to be recognized for his work.
Speech: Green (can choose something else if duplicated)
Background:
Sam's father, Dorian Smith, was a famed blacksmith turned warrior. When Sam was a small boy, his father was killed in battle saving innocents from a ruthless warlord - or so Sam was told. He took to smithing, wanting to keep the family business alive and care for his mother and two sisters. A few years later, as Sam entered manhood, he discovered through some traveling bards that his father's death wasn't so heroic after all. He had taken a bribe to work with the warlord, but it had been sniffed out by his allies and their mage. His father was unceremoniously beheaded for his treasonous crimes. Sam couldn't believe it. His motivations slowly changed - he was no longer driven by the desire to fulfill his father's destiny. He was no driven to erase it, and write his own. He wouldn't live in his father's shadow any longer. He stayed up late every night working on his craft, smithing axes, swords, and much more. After years of focus and determination, Sam drew a longsword out of the forge and went to work, crafting what he believed was his greatest work to date. It was time to show the world who he had become, and who he could be.
Just checking in and I wanted to make a few notes. First, everyone is doing a fine job with the masterpiece. I'd like to call special attention to Arophanis for thinking outside the box. This is one great example of an unorthodox masterpiece, and I hope people look to it for inspiration. Furthermore, Torke Aldrehas also an an unorthodox race that I didn't know was even a choice, and I hope people look to it for inspiration as well.
Lastly, the more details I have about your character the deeper the story will be. It isn't a requirement, but feel free to add flavor, there is still plenty of time left.

Torke is a chaotic neutral pureblood, unlike his tribal folk who are neutral evil due to their pragmatic nature.
While Torke inherits much of a Yuan-ti's instincts, he has a sliver of a sarcastic view coupled with a below-average understanding and thoughts of a human.
At the age of 23, Dordis now dons a blue-dyed armor with black shoulder plates. His skin is that of a human's tawny skin color, with pale-green scales on the arms. He has silky-white hair with decently attractive human facial features, with only his deep yellow oval eyes betraying his pure-blood nature on his face.
Otherwise, for his bottom half, he has silk-tailored cloth to cover his bits. His feet, however, are somewhat reptilian, which causes his feet to tiptoe often with no effort, making him seem taller.
Backstory—
During his youth, he had little respect for those with authority in his Yuan-ti tribe and was often scolded for doing so. Nonetheless, his personality had seemed to have two sides, with one being his chaotic nature, and the other a somehow observative and pragmatic Yuan-ti. With the years passing, he grew to become a good decent swordsman and a well-respected member of the tribe. However, his artisan crafts came unnoticed for its unorthodox use within the tribe due to their differentiated culture of hunting. At one dawn, he left to hunt for a pack of rabbits when he was pulled away by a deep and somber voice that came from a ink-black longsword; he fell into a slumber soon afterwards. When he came back to his tribe, his tribal folk were nowhere to be found. Eventually, after a few hard days, the voice spoke and told of him to move to a different settlement to find his tribe, and so he did. Torke now travels with the blade in hand, eager to continue his crafts and find where his tribe had gone off to.
Masterpiece: After years of patience and dedication Hopper created a 3 foot tall hour glass. The glass flows and ebbs like water in quick stream. It’s framed in a dark wood that seems to absorb light so you only focus on the glass. The grains of sand glinting like diamonds dropping into the lower half of the hourglass. It makes him consider how quickly a moment passes.
Time: My masterpiece takes 3 days to carefully bring up to the stage.
Doing my final Check In before Wednesday morning. First, I'm extremely pleased with the amount of creativity displayed since my last check, and I hope it continues. Second, I'm already building the ideas for group compositions and directions I can see this thing going so if you are still interested, there's time left, but you're running out fast!
Finally, once again, more backstory means more in-depth connections to the world! I'm reading every word that's added here and the content will have direct consequences on the direction the story goes. One huge example is the addition of a previously excluded terrain type that I added specifically for one of the characters already listed. Good Luck!
Hopper is older, late 20s male, with a shock of straight black hair to his shoulders, dressed in traditional monk clothes. He grew up around his kalashtar kin at the Temple of the Four Ways. They communicated mainly through telepathy as most had taken vows of silence. Hopper was one of the few monks who spoke common or at all for that matter. His manners aren’t the best he will speak very slowly to people he doesn’t think are very smart. The monastery was in the flat lands, being the only building around they had tradesmen pass through. a magician passed through and stole money from the monks so he distrusts magic users. When he wasn’t in training he was in the library secluded from others. He learned glassblowing from one of the many books in the library. Hopper started practicing and after years started selling items. He saw many tradesmen who had luxurious things. His unspoken desire is that he wants some for himself. Being in same place, studying in the same halls, and reading the same books He longs for something new.
Thank you to everyone who posted a submission! At this time, I've chosen my selected group of characters and will be reaching out to them shortly with details. If you did not make the selection I'd like to apologize as I stretched the number to try to include as many as possible but i honestly did not expect this many responses. Hopefully you can find a campaign that fits you as all of the selections presented were of pretty good quality.
To those selected, I will see you tonight. To those not selected, may we meet again, on a different battlefield!
Thank you!

Backstory
Hello Again!
Thank you!
