This is a recruiting thread for a level 13th campaign. Play-by-post on this forum. We'll start with a fairly short adventure to break the ice, then if people are into it, we'll flow that into a longer campaign.
Semi-serious playing. Fun characters and openness to humor are great, but nothing too "silly" please. No straight up evil characters.
Looking for players who can commit to at least 1 post per day. (absences are fine, I just like a heads up so I can 'bot' your character and keep things moving) I will mostly play by the rules as written, but occasionally will make a house rule. Happy to discuss these house rules with the group, but ultimately it will be my call. If you're not ok with both of these conditions, don't join.
Looking for 4 players. There will be an NPC elf wizard with the group. No Ravnica or Eberron. This will be set in Forgotten Realms. No homebrew please. Put all that amazing energy into an interesting character and background.
There will be some level appropriate magical items, which we'll work out before the adventure starts. Basically I'll give you # of items, and what rarity, and you'll pick 3 items of each that you'd like to have, and I'll choose which one you get. We'll roll stats replacing 1's once. You can roll stats twice and take the best full set. If they're both totally underwhelming you can point buy. If you have a previous character you'd like to bring in, or level up, that's good. I'll review any equipment or special powers etc they've gained and have full say to if anything needs to be modified.
Recruiting will be open until I have enough players! :-)
No need to generate a character immediately, just post the following below:
PbP experience : New / Experienced
DnD 5e experience : New / Experienced
Playing style : any comments about your playing style
DM style : any comments about how you like your DM's to behave
Character concept : race / gender / class, subclass, and any other basic concepts
Character background : come up with a paragraph that describes who your character is, their motivations, and where they came from.

What's the difference between a Wizard and a Sorcerer? Class.
Hi NathanPizazz! I'm definitely interested. Going to roll stats for now and then edit with the remainder of the details (in case the stats influence some sort of MAD multi-class character vs a more straight forward single class character)...
Ability scores: 12111415818
Ability scores: 141413151013
PbP experience : Have been doing Play-By-Post for 5 years or so, so pretty well versed in the advantages, challenges, keeping up with the game, etc.
DnD 5e experience : I've played quite a bit of 5e in person and online over the past 5-6 years or so.
Playing style : I enjoy all aspects of the game from character builds to role-play, exploration to combat, etc. Primarily I try to work with my DM and be a positive contributor to the group dynamic and everyone's enjoyment of the game. If someone is intentionally disruptive I'd probably talk to the DM about it, as I feel the group dynamic is paramount to a good campaign.
DM style : Any fair DM who is enthusiastic, positive, not out just to murder their players or only impose their godly will upon them, willing to address issues in and out of character, etc. works for me. I'd even be fine with a newer DM as long as they are trying to learn DM'ing, 5e rules, etc. and am happy to contribute more if that is the case.
Character concept :Jahren Lorewalker, Half-Elf Lore Bard - support caster / healer if need be
Character background : Jahren is a traveler who enjoys traveling around learning about new places, cultures and people. He is always documenting his travels and the interesting things he discovers. He is kind and a bit of a pacifist but always tries to help people via his magic, and is extremely modest in his interactions with others. More privately, Jahren is well aware of his capabilities and influence. He is a member of a some sort of secret society (to be worked out with the DM) who collectively try to positively influence the events of the world while keeping a somewhat low profile, shifting the attention to other heroes and hoping that, in turn, inspires even more people to rise up as new heroes to protect the realms. (Secret society could be the Harpers, something original, simply a small group of Jahren's friends, something the DM suggests, etc)
PbP Experience: Some. Mainly since the pandemic. I'm currently in / have been in several campaigns with mixed results but I enjoy the story and character creating, just wish the longevity tended to be longer before activity tapered off.
D&D 5e experience: Same as above. I haven't played in decades and was just looking to get back in and then the pandemic hit. So all my 5e experience has been PbP here.
Playing Style: I try to be adaptive to the group and the campaign. I ted to prefer more serious campaigns (with some levity when it happens) that are more RP focused than min/maxing but I don't mind when RP is forgotten on occasion to sort out combat or discuss rules or whatever. All in all I just want to have an entertaining time...
DM Style: I like DM's to be fair and consistent, to be the conduit through which the story unfolds, not one to take sides... I personally don't mind DM rolls being private, I think a DM should be able to fudge things when story appropriate be it for or against the players.
Character Concept: Half Elf female Warlock of the Archfey - She has these powers which are gifted to her and she knows there will be a price to pay for them, but she doesn't know what it is. She dreads finding out but knows there is little she can do about it until that bill comes due. Until then she's just using her powers to do as much as she can in the hopes of helping others and, perhaps through that, helping herself...
Character Background: As a girl who wasn't quite yet a woman Siobhan was playing in a clearing in the forest near her home. She always had an active imagination so the fact that her imaginary playmates were not quite so imaginary any longer didn't really register with her. During this play she struck a bargain... A bargain she thought was just pretend. Fun and games. Imaginary. At least until, not longer after becoming a woman, she found herself with powers. Her small village knew of magic, of course, but mainly by rumor and story. Seeing it up close and barely controlled from one who had always lived innocently amongst them caused quite a stir. Eventually tensions grew so high that Siobhan ran off and returned to the forest. In the clearing once more she remembered the bargain, but not the details.
"Are we away on our journey, my dear one?" the Fey woman asked as she stepped forward and gently laid her hand upon Siobhan's cheek.
"Yes," Siobhan answered nervously but with a twinkle in her eyes. "It is time. I've had enough of that life. Yes! Let's go live our adventure!"
"Yes, my dear Fianna," the Fey woman said, renaming her little witch and then leaning in to seal it with a kiss. "Yes, let's."
"Oh!" the girl exclaimed in a whisper, blushing. "I like that..." And with that Fianna turned and ran through the woods heading towards... towards whatever came.
Fianna knows that the day will come when the Fey woman, whoever she was, demands repayment for the grand life she has lived since her renaming. Fianna knows that her life, her choices may not always be her own. But for now they are... So for now, she intends to live a life worth living!
PbP experience : Experienced - Have several games going on at the moment including one you DM.
DnD 5e experience : Experienced - Been playing 5E for the past year or so in mostly PbP.
Playing style : I enjoy the combat and have been getting a lot better at the RP side of things, which PbP makes it a lot easier to do.
DM style : So far I haev not really had any issues with any of the DM's I have played with, it is their world I am playing in.
Character concept : Thinking maybe either Goliath barbarian or Bard of some kind. Decision made: Bugbear Barbarian/Fighter
Character background : Moxley was one of the better fighters of his tribe, though he did tend to lose his mind during his fights, he was always the last one standing during all his training. He thoroughly enjoyed combat and set out after his age of adulthood ceremony from the tribe to make a life for himself. On his travels he encountered a traveling merchant that took him under his wing, mainly due to the fact that no more brigands would attack the caravan seeing the monstrosity of a Minotaur at the head of the caravan defending it. In turn, the merchant taught Moxley how to cook and he took to the skill with glee, cooked food was so much better than the stuff he was used to eating. Also while traveling with the Merchant his wife who happened to be a fighter on her own right took him under her wing and taught him how to channel his rage into new ways of fighting, being able to be in two pales at once and attack form the shadow was a boon that Moxley took to greedily. Between the two of them they were a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately after a few years the Merchant decided to retire with his wife and live out their lives in comfort.
Moxley was once more on his own traveling the land until he finally came upon a village that he found interesting. Moxley became a well respected Tavern owner in this village though at first he was not trusted, he was a Bugbear after all, and his ferocious look did not help. He won the town over by way of his cooking, not to mention his almost single handily defeating a band of brigands that attacked the town one night. At which point the town welcomed him and his tavern became a hot spot of the village as they learned he could be trusted. It didn't hurt that bar fights rarely happened in his tavern as no one wanted to test his strength or be thrown out of his establishment by one so large. One afternoon as he was out gathering some supplies in the forest nearby he was on his way back and crested the top of a hill overlooking his town to see it engulfed in flames as a Dragon took interest in the town and was attacking it. There was no way this village could defend against a Dragon and most people were fleeing for safety and all Moxley could do was watch as the village was devastated by fire. Eventually the Dragon got bored and its belly was full that it flew off and Moxley stumbled down to the charred remains of this tavern to collect what he could vowing to one day seek vengeance onto the Dragon and left his ravaged village in search of it.
PbP experience : newish? I have played for a few months and I have got the hang of it tho. easy on my schedule and I am usually available to post multiple times a day if needed. PbP are marathons not sprints tho.
DnD 5e experience : Experienced player. I know the rules like the back of my hand until I forget them ;)
Playing style : love role-play and combat, puzzles, and just about anything else. I tend to optimize my characters a bit, but I can not if you would prefer a more laid back game. haven't played high level characters in a while, but I would love to jump in.
DM style : I dislike DMs who try to "win". other than that? no preferences. I am welcoming of all play styles and I tend to adapt to the group dynamic.
Character concept : would love to play a Bladesinger . it will probably be an Eladrin I am big on gishes and support tanks
Character background : Ilyaas was born into the family of a high ranking noble family in waterdeep. he appeared like a a normal human boy until he reached 8 months of age. then his fey heritage became clear. ilyaas was switched in his crib as a baby, and the real son of the noble is now being raised by an Eladrin family. despite this fact, Ilyaas' parents still loved him, but his father feared that his uncle, the head of the family, would seek to dispose of this "embarrassment". so at only a year old Ilyaas was sent to be raised by the only people his father could think of -- the elves of Evermeet . he was raised cautiously, as sometimes the elves with a stronger fey connection could sometimes be powerful and dangerous- ilyaas was no exception. from an early age he showed aptitude for both magic and weaponry. so great became his skill, that it was decided that he would train with a bladesinger- the master of magic and sword. he trained for 20 years, progressing far more quickly than any others of his kin. eventually he finished his rigorous training, having surpassed his mentor. following an ache in his heart, he set off to find the family who gave him up.
Playing style: I tend to make characters more based around flavor than power. Because of this, my characters tend to be a bit underpowered, but I still avoid making totally useless characters. I also sometimes forget to contribute and just let the story progress. If you feel I'm not really contributing, just remind me.
DM style: Umm... make game go good whoosh. Just... DM well, I suppose?
Character concept: Ver Masheen is a male human warlock of the hexblade.
Character background: Ver once made his living hunting down people for money. It didn't matter who they were; they could be murderers, thieves, or just behind on a debt, it didn't matter to him, as long as he got payed. But one day it certainly did matter. The victim of the day was a strange fellow wielding a strange sword, who didn't seem to have any qualms with lopping people up into little pieces. Ver had dealt with such people before, so he wasn't too worried. After cornering the madman in an alleyway, they had a short scuffle which ended with each of them burying their blade hilt deep in the other's chest. A few hours later, Ver woke up, which was a pleasant surprise. A bit less pleasant was the blade lodged between his ribs up to the hilt, piercing straight through his heart and just a bit out the other side. Needless to say, he panicked a little, his panic only increasing when his veins began to run black. He attempted to pull the sword out of his chest, but alas, it was stuck. Then the voice started. It was your classic, run-of-the-mill evil invisible voice stuff. You know, "kill, slaughter, rip and tear." Honestly, it was quite annoyingly cliche. It also couldn't exactly force him to do much. Perhaps the other guy was already a psychopath. Fast forward a few years, and Ver has adjusted remarkably well. He has to get custom clothing and armor to account for the blade buried in his chest, and the black veins can be off-putting for those meeting him for the first time, but it's really not all that bad, and he gets cool powers in exchange. There is the occasional bloodlust and urge to slaughter, but he can normally just head down to the butcher and watch a nice pig being disemboweled to sate the urges. No need to actually do anything. He still works as a bounty hunter, with more clients than ever. And uh... then a plot hook occurs and he gets roped into whatever campaign is about to occur.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
PbP experience: Fairly experienced. Text based roleplay is how I got into roleplay overall, several years back, though I've only started to do D&D PbPs a couple of months ago.
DnD 5e experience: Experienced. Currently in a few games, and have been playing over a year and a half.
Playing style: I enjoy plenty of roleplay, with some combat strewn about. Usually like to work with the group on matters, ranging from class and backstories to planning solutions. I enjoy having a mix of serious and lighthearted roleplay. A lot of it depends on the situations we're thrown into.
DM style: I like having a DM who will work with players so that everyone (including the DM!) has a good time. Not much of a fan of disrespect out of character, but otherwise I'm usually fine with most DM styles
Character concept: Thinking so far a Scout Rogue. For race, was thinking half-elf, or aasamir. Depending on what's more acceptable.
Character background: Loane, in very true adventurer fashion, never knew her true parents. But this fact has never bothered her, nor has she cared much about it. She was raised since she was young by an older couple in Everlund, with several other children in a similar predicament as her. Their house was cramped, more often than not, but the children had a good childhood. As she grew older, Loane moved out of the house and left the city, to find new opportunities for herself. She found herself working on ships, mostly trading ones. She was quick on her feet, and had nimble fingers, which allowed her to work well in any position given to her. It was tough work, but one she thoroughly enjoyed for several years. A decade, even. What made her return to land was the news of her adopted parent's deaths. She and her siblings returned home to pay respects, and she spent some time there. Up until the very end, her parents were still giving children homes, so she stayed to help raise them with two of her siblings: a halfling named Bezren and a human named Amelia. She became a guide, scout, and occasional crew hand for smaller ships. Over the years, she has taken a variety of jobs, doing ones that seemed well paying or well meaning. Once everyone has grown up, she once more left. While helping raise her 'siblings' was fulfilling, she was ready to live on her own again, out on the road or a boat, and to carve her own little spot out in the world.
PbP experience : New-ish (I've been playing since early 2020)
DnD 5e experience : Fairly Experienced (I've been playing for just under year)
Playing style : I'm very laid back and enjoy all aspects of a campaign. I try to RP my character to the best of my ability without being a distraction or a detriment to the group as a whole (and if I accidentally do that feel free to let me know).
DM style : No preference as long as everyone's able to have an enjoyable experience and things stay mostly consistent. Otherwise I'm pretty open to most things
Character concept: Angel Leradine is a male Rouge Swashbuckler (I also have a Storm Sorcerer I've been looking to try as well if that might fit the group better)
Character background : (Background in progress. Will have it up very shortly)

Zoldier’s Curse of the Crimson Throne: DM/ Redii || Zoldier's Strange Aeon's: DM
CLOSED! That is definitely enough to choose from and I wouldn't want others spending effort/energy if there's no need.
Thanks all who have applied!!! I'll let you know via PM if you've been selected! (and if you haven't, don't want to leave anyone hanging)
(Zoldier, please update your bits when yo have a moment.)
