The small village of Androll's Rock resides along the sword coast near Luskan. It is home to an annual festival celebrating the hero of the town, a famous Half-Elf Bard/Paladin named Androll. Around 50 years ago,, Androll defeated a large green dragon that had been terrorizing farmers in the area...the dragon escaped from Androll's trap at the last minute, but was severely wounded in the process, which caused the beast to flee. With the dragons hoard, Androll built a temple and college of music atop a huge rock shelf along a cliff, overlooking the coast. The festival of universal love and music begins at the end of this week.
Until yesterday, everyone was excited for the upcoming event. The children were making decorations, the townsfolk were gathering the wares they would sell that would give them the coin they'd need to get by for a decent part of the year. Yesterday is when a sudden shadow fell over the nearby farms , and a cold wind blew in a dense fog from the east. Screams and shouts of warning were heard just moments before it descended upon the farm. The destruction it caused took only a few minutes, and it ended abruptly. The fog cleared away and if it weren't for the unmistakable roars, it would have seemed a tornado had ripped the farm to shreds. But you knew in your heart, this was the work of a DRAGON!
The townspeople have put out messengers to all the nearby towns requesting the aid of brave adventurers. Are you a hero, looking to aid the town with its plight? Or a sneaky con man looking to turn a profit from this? Or just a traveler headed to the festival? Any roles are welcome, but be warned that the Gods believe in karma.
About the session : This is the first PbP session I've ever run, I'm adapting the last campaign I ran in person. As a sped up version of a session 0 for each person joining I would ask you to pick a race and starting class starting at level 1 by using the generator located at fastcharacter.com and post it to the thread via a clear Screenshot. After initial creation of you wish to use a different sheet, feel free, I just want the fresh character sheets for my records(i enjoy the way they format their sheets.) After the initial character is generated each new player will have a sort of "death proof plot armor" till level 3, at which point they will be open to all manner of devious and terrible deaths, potentially even via PVP depending on the area they are in geographically in game.(think pvp arena of an mmo, imagine fighting other players to win amazing in game items!) I plan on keeping the game plot point oriented, and on a semi regular posting schedule, so any one can join and participate as soon as they post a sheet. Players that do not post regularly risk having their character being commandeered by the DM to use as an NPC, you will be notified before/if this happens.
About me: long time d&d player/dm as far back as the red box, lots of love for the mythos, so expect cameos from some of my favorite characters, I like to keep it light hearted and fast paced, in the vein of Acquisitions Incorporated game play. The funnier and more ridiculous your idea is, the more likely it may become a pivotal story hook. And I'm addicted to dad jokes, and have been known to hand out inspiration to players that make me laugh when they role-play well. Ultimately I want to share a good experience with as many players as possible, and maybe make some new friends.
I am interested, but I don’t really like the website you gave us for character creation. Aside from the class and race, it doesn’t really let me pick the spells, equipment, background etc... I would be perfectly happy to send you a character I made on D&D beyond, but the website is really more of a random character generator.
DMOOC: well, there's hiccup number one, lol. If everyone prefers the Dndb creator and its easier to post to the forum, I suppose let's try that and see how it goes, I've only used it a couple times myself. Thanks for all the interest, cant wait to see who everyone is!
Backstory : Mallus grew up in an orphanage, his parents got themselves killed guarding the town. He didn’t care. He didn’t really feel most of the time. He wasn’t very strong, despite working at a child labor camp under the guise of an orphanage. One day he ran away, and found himself in a camp, with people who were much nicer that the people at the orphanage. He even adopted their faith, Allikulio the Archfey.
Years later, he’s being sent on a trip, his patron has a couple grudges against dragons, so now he has to go see what this dragon thing is about at Androll’s rock.
Jhoni hails from Luskan where he worked on the reaver crews out from there into the Sea of Ice. His last crew decided that his payment for their last haul was to keep breathing while they kept the gold. Fed up with being cheated by crew mates he has set off south for warmer climates and wanders into town with a rumbling belly and a need to find somewhere to nap for the night.
The story surrounding the mighty wizard Halaster, the Undermountain, and even Durnan had been a topic of interest for the not-so-mighty dwarf wizard (and tinkerer) Jabethra Boulderhorn since she was young. For centuries, Jabethra dreamed of plunging into the Yawning Portal to discover the secrets it holds. However, the older she got, the less sure she was of her ability to survive such an adventure. (Though she never truly realized it, she was both claustrophobic and agoraphobic, so there was no way she was ever going to make the trip.) Jabethra decided to retrofit one of her constructs — one she had created as a social and musical companion — to make the journey for her. Bestowing upon it some rudimentary fighting skills and the ability to learn and adapt, and fitting it with a sending stone to be able to send instructions and receive daily reports, Jabethra sent the construct she dubbed Gling, meaning "music" in Gnomish, from her home in Mirabar to Waterdeep to descend into the depths of the Yawning Portal for her. Little does Gling know, but Jabethra died the day after the construct left Mirabar. Progressing under the assumption that the sending stone is only sending messages instead of also receiving them, Gling continues its daily reports as it hikes its way toward its destination. However, the further it gets from Mirabar, and the longer it goes without hearing its master's voice, the more other ideas have begun to enter its social and curious, magical brain.

Awesome! Mallus is entering the town the morning after the attack via the north gate Bridge, the only major route to lead into the town. Being an orphan yourself, you notice several groups of ragtag children dressed poorly, running about the streets. Some of them are wearing blue headbands, as if to signify being part of a group. When a passing merchant pushing his cart notices you observing the children, he says," best to steer clear of them orphan boys, the ones in blue. They'll pick your pocket faster than you can sneeze! Sad really, most of their parents were quite good folk, a lot of em have gone missing in the woods nearby over the last few years. " With a somber sigh, he bids you a good day and continues pushing his cart up the hill into the town.

DnDB also has a "random character generator" option if you like randoms. Just saying.

Question : For starts should I use roll or point buy? I’m open to either one but I wanted to know which one you prefer I use.
I'm a roll guy myself, but tbh it doesn't matter that much.
