Winter is coming - a common phrase in the distant lands of Westrose. There are places where winter comes once a year, there are those where it lasts for many years, and there are those where winter is just a legend. Icewind Dale does not meet any of these categories. Huge plains of continuous frost, where the shadows of the mountains that border the world itself are casted. Frost giants, goliaths, cruel orc cannibals, human sacrifices, all of these and more are common sightings in the Icewind Dale. But these legends have always been a part of your life. Some of you were born in the Icewind Dale, some of you have lived there for many years, and some of you have been living there for several months, and you have already become a familiar face in ten-towns, the only cultural center in the great and desolate tundra.
The locals are not routine. Many of them are refugees, people who could only find safety at the end of the world, because of the atrocities that haunted them in the past. Some found relaxation only in fishing for the knucklehead trout, and some found that the cold of the area was what gave them a sense of home, a sense of relaxation. But not for peace we gathered here today.
Recently, winter has lasted longer than usual. In fact, for a year now the weather has not warmed up, and has only gotten worse and worse. The Council of Speakers, the leaders of the ten-towns, met to discuss the impact of the harsh winter on the economy. They unanimously decided that winter was the product of the wrath of the frostmaiden, Auril. Now, every month when the moon shines, the townsfolk offer sacrifices to the frostmaiden. In the average towns, they sacrifice some of the food that the townsfolk have labored so hard to obtain. In the poorer towns, where not a single piece of food can be given up, their heat is sacrificed - the fire does not burn at night. In the rich towns they sacrifice what is considered the most honorable sacrifice - they sacrifice human beings.
Our little bunch got to Easthaven, a town rich enough to allow human sacrifice, at the same eternal winter. They met at strange circumstances - they all warmed up in the same cave when they were trapped in a blizzard in Lonelywood. Under the light of the fire, they united friendship forged under the stories told, a material which unfortunately is not particularly resistant to forging friendship. Hopefully those stories will suffice, because a heavy burden is placed on the shoulders of those adventurers.
Welcome! If you would like to join the adventure, please send a PM, with a ready-made character page of a level 1 character (all official content and unearthed arcana are allowed, third party requires approval). 4-6 players will be able to participate in the adventure, and after such a number of players send characters, we can start play.
After you submit the character pages, I will choose a random secret for you. The mechanics of the secrets of the adventure link the characters to the story, sometimes while providing benefits and connections that will help the players in the adventure. Once a secret has been chosen for you, you can write the background story (there is no need for too much, although the more the better).
Note that each character starts with winter clothes, and a character who isn't wearing them outside will suffer from certain effects. Although characters with resistance/immunity to cold damage or those who are accustomed to cold climates (like Goliaths) do not need these clothes, there is no reason why they should not take the free items 😊.
Guys, thank you everybody for the characters. Right now, already more than six players sand me their characters or their interests in the game. If I didn't message you back, you still can get into the game if someone will retire, so I keep you in mind.
The players that I already send a meesage, for the ability scores, you can use the roll 4d6 pick the lowest theme.
