The Hell’s Vengeance Adventure Path begins when the Hellknight Order of the Godclaw reveals that its members have found Heart’s Edge, the legendary sword once wielded by the goddess Iomedae. A group of Iomedaean knights calling themselves the Glorious Reclamation, upset that a Hellknight order held an important relic of their faith, raided the Hellknights’ fortress, Citadel Dinyar, and reclaimed the divine weapon. And rather than stopping there, they set their sights on overthrowing the diabolical Thrice-Damned House of Thrune! It is your job to stop them.
Hello! I am looking to run 4-6 players through an evil campaign; specifically, the Pathfinder Adventure Path, Hell's Vengeance. Here is the link to a free player's guide.
Although this is a Pathfinder Adventure Path, we will be using 5e rules; I'll be doing all the converting.
If you are interested, apply here with the following:
Character Name: Race: (PHB only, no dragonborn) Class: (PHB, XGE, TCE only) Ability Scores: (standard array or point buy) Alignment: (no good; neutral classes okay) Backstory:
Class: Paladin (Either Oathbreaker or Conquest at lvl 3)
Ability Scores: Point Buy
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Backstory: Zaradius was born into a cult of Asmodeus, his human family having served the Lord not the hells for generations. To them the birth of a Tiefling was seen as a great blessing as they were to be trained and then sent to the Hells to serve under Asmodues directly. This from the time he could walk, Zaradius began his path towards evil and death.
Under the harsh lessons he went through the young Tiefling became disciplined, willing to do whatever was needed without question. This would continue for most of his childhood and young adult life, leaving him with little care for others outside of keeping those that served a purpose alive. For Zaradius the only things that mattered were victory and serving Asmodeus.
Sounds interesting for sure. It's been a very long time since I've played an evil character. Would be fun to give that a go with a fully evil party.
Character Name: Ilshin Ilaliir Race: Elf - Drow Class: Wizard (leaning towards Bladesinger at Level 2) Ability Scores: Point Buy Alignment: Neutral Evil Backstory: Ilshin grew up as the somewhat spoiled 'back up' heir of a noble drow family. The Ilaliir family had power, and were on their way up. Ilshin's older brother, Drokoth was betrothed to a daughter of the most powerful family in the city. For most of this youth, Ilshin has been content to live a life of idle luxury. The closest he came to serious work was a fascination with magic and a love of swordplay. He would actual devote time to study those spells that would give him an edge in the rougher bars and taverns where he would some times slum with his peers. His life was magic, illicit substances and all manner of carnal delights.
But that all changed when his father was killed in a raid he led against a neighboring city state. Ilshin's brother, Drokoth, assumed control of the family and he was determined to increase the family power even more. As the wedding approached, Drokoth arranged for Ilshin to join the Lolth priesthood. Ilshin wanted nothing to do with the dour, humorless priests and found Lolth to be especially tedious. Seeing his easy life about to slip away he did what any self-respecting spoiled noble would do. He tried to kill his brother and take control of the family himself. Unfortunately, his mastery of magic was not as good as he thought and he failed. He barely escaped the city with his life. In order to stay ahead of the assassins hired by his brother, Ilshin fled to the surface.
Ilshin now pursues magic and power with the goal of killing his brother, becoming the head of the most powerful family in his home city, and returning to the life of luxury he believes is owed to him.
Still playing with this a bit and still need to go through the player's guide a little more, so happy to tweak anything in the above to make it a better fit with the party.
Is variant human allowed, and if so, any restrictions on sources for feats? I feel like a human makes more sense for the character I have in mind, but I can make tiefling work as well if I need to.
Backstory: Brana Ashmaker has always served the Temple of Asmodeus faithfully. She sees it as her sacred duty to carry out law and order within House Thrune. As a faction agent of Thrune, she has always been well known as a brutal enforcer, bending the will of others to her demands in service of her House. It's only natural that she would be sent as part of the strike force designated to put down the heretical knights of the so-called "Glorious Reclamation" so that law and order can be restored within Cheliax. Brana is not only willing but eager to do so as a faithful and dutiful citizen of the empire.
Character Name: Phallus Race: (PHB only, no dragonborn) V Human(Poisoner) Class: (PHB, XGE, TCE only) Spores Druid Ability Scores: (Standard array) Str 8 Dex 13 Con 15 Int 10 Wis 16 Cha 12 Alignment: (no good; neutral classes okay) NE Backstory: Phallus was lost in the dark, and then he found a place that was warm and wet. He could live there. But the place breathed, and Phallus became a husk full of spite. He spent years bringing in new prey for the grove of fungi that controlled his corrupted mind. Phallus is wandering now, searching for new places to expand the grove's blighted reach.
Ability scores: Str 8 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 13 Wis 10 Cha 15 (before mods)
Brief Backstory: Vanna was set in to evict a hag from her mother's lands, but found a gathering of several covens. Dispatching Vanna's guards, the hosting hag decided to make an example of her in front of her guests, removing her eyes during a recitation of lyrical poetry and and decorative thaumatergy. She then dumped Vanna into a portal into a pocket dimension containing an arcane labyrinth. She spent the next three years in that labyrinth, stumbling blind, occasionally tormented by the hag, learning it was a travel nexus and training ground for her kind. People trapped in the maze were often used for magical experimentation, though the hag's choices were based mostly on who was 'entertaining', and Vanna found she was often passed over. In time, she scrounged the means to learn enough about the hag's power to claim some of it for herself, and to cobble together a spell casting focus. In learning the patterns of the labyrinth she learned it's secrets too, as well as the linchpin needed to destroy it. With that knowledge she confronted the hag, and forced her to grant her the pact. Holding the safety of the labyrinth over her head, she demanded her release, and forced the hag to open a portal.
Perfect! Then I don't need to worry about Mummy and Daddy's "political maneuvers" being gauche enough to have resulted in a frightful Tieflling. ;)
Character Name: Thana Lorelei Almodine of the Barony of Imrex (level of nobility can be adjusted to fit campaign) Race: Variant Human (feat: Skill Expert for +1 INT) Class: Wizard (Necromancer) Ability Scores: STR 8 DEX 14 CON 15 INT 17 WIS 8 CHA 12 Alignment: Neutral Evil Background: Noble Backstory: Thana's family is of that middling important amongst the ranks of nobility that means constant infighting, clawing over each other's backs to rise in power, while making sure they don't slide down in rank as well. Under-the-table dealing and midnight bargains are common, as is wringing their populace for every copper they can, in order to throw money at their own problems. They may be planning a politically-advantageous match for her, but until she's handed off Thana gets every little thing her heart desires that Mummy and Daddy's money can buy, along with a blind eye to her own ambitions. Thana sees the resources being wasted on keeping peasants alive just to till the fields, the coffers being drained by soldiers who may win battles but eventually fall. And she's got better ideas for how to run things -- but a leg up and a favor or two owed to her and not her parents would make things much easier.
Character Name: Coriana Heartsbane Race: Variant Human Class: Warlock (Hexblade) Ability Scores: STR 10 DEX 14 CON 14 INT 10 WIS 12 CHA 16 Alignment: CN Backstory: Cori was born into high nobility and raised to serve a traditional life, arranged marriage for position and prestige and all that. Until she heard a seductive call of a blade forged of pure darkness on her wedding night. It promised her power and freedom in exchange for murdering her husband, a rising star in the House of Thrune. She then fled into the underworld of Cheliax, doing whatever her desires took her. She was quite a thorn in the side of the leadership, but when the Glorious Reclamation threatened to pull down the system she'd spent so long working around, replacing it with a do-gooder code which would likely be much harder to deal with, her path was clear. Negotiating a pardon for her previous crimes in exchange, she joined up with the team.
Interesting scenario ! Changing the character I had planned for CoS
Character Name: Bodurk *BoneCrusher* Race: Human Class: Fighter > going for Rune Knight if surviving till level 3 Ability Scores: 15-8-15-8-14-10 Alignment: Lawful Evil Backstory: Bodurk is an human close to his thirties who was sold in his childhood by his barbarian's tribe. No one knows exactly why the tribe wanted to get rid of him but, ultimately, he found his place in a society of violence and obedience. Illiterate, what he lacked in Intelligence he compensated it with pure strength. Bigger than the usual human, others were clever enough to show him respect and his former master employed him as a bodyguard, a strong protector to follow him place where weapons where not allowed. One day out on the field, he saved the captain of the guard, Rederick, from a deadly attack from a manticore, breaking the skull of the creature with his bare hands. In return for saving his life, Captain Rederick bought him from his master and gave him his freedom. Since then, the loyal Bodurk stayed with his new master and joined the rank of Hellknight order.
Character Name: Huna Jack Race: Variant Human Class: Hexblade Warlock Ability Scores: Point Buy w/ resilient Con s8 d14 c16 i10 w10 c16 Alignment: Neutral Evil Backstory: Once a warrior for the Glorious Reclamations Huna Jack was a tall strong warrior, clad in armor and at the fore of the fighting. However, he was also a drunk and a drug addict. A thief and a robber. Eventually, he was caught out by Alexeara Cansellarion, but instead of simply removing his commission, he was cursed. His strength taken, his limbs that were stong now weak. Unable to wear armor... He was then stripped of all possessions and left to die...he staggered through the wilderness for days, near death, abused by the elements and by bandits.
He screamed for death, for vengeance. And something answered. Something from the pit. He took the dark blade offered, and now uses his new power for vengeance.

I'll put in my hat for a spot here, though I need to read the player's guide before I make a character (Mountain Dwarf Order Domain cleric).

If we both get in, want to say we're siblings? I'm not tied to the surname.
Variant human is totally allowed, no limits on feats, besides the obvious racial limitations of some of them.

It took me way longer than it should have to notice that the reason I don't know any of these setting elements is because it's pathfinder.
