Since the dnd character sheet doesn't yet automatically create all possible die rolls, it makes things a little more difficult for the ranger and his situational abilities. This can be rectified with custom skills and attacks. I created custom skills named survival (grassland) and perception (grassland) and gave them expertise. Now I have one click rolls for my favored terrain. For beast master or drake warden companion attacks it was trickier. The custom attacks want to be based off of your abilities. I ended up taking a weapon with the same die roll, renaming it and altering the damage bonus. It is crude, but now I have direct access to my companions' attacks.
I credit this odd issue to a good chunk of the PHB Ranger hate. Even the digital tools find it hard to come up with a good way to roll your bonus. Its a hard concept to quantify so many get frustrated and some will out right ban it do to "too much work " for the dm or too much to remember for the player.
