I'm playing a 9th level Tabaxi in Tomb of Annhiliation. The build is currently at Rogue-Scout 7, Ranger 2. Focusing on a ranged stalker idea the build has so far proven to be extremely versatile. Choosing Scout as my subclass expertised my "Ranger skills" with the Survivalist Feature. Taking Ranger at Level 4 gave access to Longbow which gives more power to the Rogue's Steady Aimed 2d6 Sneak Attacks! Favoured Enemy had to be Undead for Chult and taking Forest for Natural Explorer was a no-brainer for this campaign.
10th level will be Rogue 8 for my build's essential Sharpshooter Feat. With a current proficiency modifier of +11, rolling with advantage most turns will significantly off-set that pesky -5 penalty.
Then comes 11th level! The plan is to then progress to Ranger 5; subclass, another Feat (Alert), Extra Attack and Level 2 Spells. This is where I hope, dear Reader, that you will provide some constructive advice before I commit to my path.
I'm tied between Gloomstalker (my favourite subclass) and Hunter. Thematically, both blend naturally with my build (pun intended).
Wisdom bonus (+3) added to Initiative is great, practical invisibility and increased darkvision are huge advantages and an explosive first round of combat can really make a difference in eliminating nasties. Rope Trick at Gloomstalker 5 is a useful "panic room" if things turn sour.
By comparison the Hunter looks far less impressive on paper with only one feature, Hunter's Prey. However two of the three options are worth a closer look. While Gloomstalker can dish out big damage on the first round of combat the Hunter's Colossus Slayer dishes out an additional 1d8 if the target is under max HP once per turn. Essentially Hunter is able to sustain a potentially higher rate of damage during the entire combat. This is a godsend if Bosses enter the fray before combat ends! Given the number of Undead in the campaign Horde Breaker is a free extra attack to hit another creature within 5 feet of the original target. Yet again we have more damage being meted out by our multiclassed Stalker.
Your thoughts on how best to progress will be much appreciated.

Honestly your a rogue just kill stuff quickly not over a long time somgloomstalker
And you run, and you run
To catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking
And racing around
To come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way
But you’re older
Shorter of Breath
And one day closer to death
currently in love with redesigning subclasses send me a message and I will try
