You can augment your weapon strikes with mind-scarring magic, drawn from the gloomy hollows of the Feywild. When you hit a creature with a weapon, you can deal an extra 1d4 psychic damage to the target, which can take this extra damage only once per turn.”
ok so I at level 3 I take my swing and hit my foe. I do normal damage + the dreadful strike damage that is clear. But, what happens if he has a friend and I use my bonus action to swipe at his friend and hit him does he also take the dreadful strike damage? Assuming he does would this continue so that at level 5 if I use both attacks and my bonus action attack to attack 3 different foes 1 attack each and get lucky enough to hit all 3 do they each take the additional dreadful strike damage?
As I read the ability any single foe can only take the damage once in a round but it reads like different foes would each be subject to the damage if hit by additional legal weapon attacks. Any thoughts?

Yes! It's a multiattack menace to the enemies!
If you attack two enemies you get it twice. Three enemies you get it thrice.
Yep that is my understanding of how it works. While it can mess with concentrated damage, its a small amount of damage that you can throw around. My general thought would be to ignore it tactically since spreading attacks is usually a poor idea (in particular for only an extra 2.5 damage), but it will be fun when it happens.
Correct. Needing to spread the extra damage to multiple enemies is a definite downside, but it's better than only getting it once per turn as a hard rule. It's usually better to focus on one enemy at a time, especially if it's a glass cannon, like an enemy wizard. But you have the option, and if you strike the killing blow with your first shot it's a distinction without a difference.
Ok thanks just making sure I hadn’t missed something obvious some where. But it got me thinking and I may open a new general thread on the builds you wish you could do but can’t. For me one would be a ranger dual subclassed as a Fey wanderer/ horizon walker and use distant strike and dreadful strike together 😳🤪😁

I agree Dreadful Strike's limit is by target not attack.
